Harry needs to look forward to achieve success

by Alan the librarian

After clinching our place in the champions league for next season, Harry was quoted last week as saying he is largely content with his playing staff.

"It's difficult to improve this squad. If Woodgate comes back fit, we've got good options everywhere," he explained.

Redknapp nevertheless recognises that spurs have to build on their success and he is prepared to spend big money on a 'special' signing.

"But if we could find a really special player, someone who could take the team to another level like, for example, the way (Fernando) Torres did to Liverpool, then we'll try to do that.

"It might only be one player - one expensive player - but then we might go for it.

I am hoping it's no coincidence that he named a striker as the player who can make such a difference because that is the area I feel we need strengthening. This for two reasons:

1. Quantity but not top quality
In terms of numbers we are fine. Keane will replace the out-going Gudjohnsen and we are back to four. However, none of them are complete strikers. Defoe is a fine premier league goalscorer but question marks do exist about his all round game. He is essentially, Emile Heskey in reverse. Same appears the case for Pav. Crouch is a good Plan B option but for me nothing more. He just doesn't have the pace nor the shooting accuracy to make the grade. Keane's career is on the decline and I wouldn't be surprised if he's sold.

2. Champions league formation
The most prominent clubs in Europe tend to play 433 (certainly in their European games at least). 442 with two out and out goalscorers is rather dated and puts us at risk of getting over-run in midfield against quality sides (our away record at top 4 clubs is indicative of this). I think there's scope for us to go 433. Bale and Lennon are of the required quality to play on the wings whilst Modric, Hudd and Palacios/Sandro could make a very good, balanced midfield (hopefully the extra man can release Luka to get us more goals from that area). The one component missing is a striker capable of holding the ball up whilst also providing a goal threat. At the moment we seem to need two players to achieve this one objective. None of the existing strikers appear to be in the same league as a Drogba, Rooney, Ibrahimovic, Torres etc.

I know what you are thinking. 'Nice one Sherlock but we can't afford any of these players'. Well that's true for what these players are now but what of the next generation of this ilk? They all came from somewhere and apart from Zlatan, all within our price range at the time of their most recent transfer. I don't believe a 20-30m player is beyond us. Not when you consider the money generated from this year's success, the increase in TV revenue and the proceeds from shifting players like Hutton, Keane, GDS, Tarrbat, O'Hara etc. All of which had a marginal contribution to our success this season.

Admittedly, I don't have a huge list of potential players (Dzeko? Llorente? Benzima? Fabiano? Huntelaar? Suarez? - though not a target man). But what are scouts paid for? I am hoping that Harry is spending his time exhausting his list of contacts to find us such a player. Keeping our existing band of special players would obviously be the priority.

This would be my one special signing. Quality not quantity being the watchword.

What about you? Are you more keen to replace Woodgate/Ledley? Perhaps a goalscoring CM? I am keen to get your views.

Higuain would be ideal.

Young guy at Anderlecht, Lukaku. Scored 15 goals in 29 games this season, an international, similar style to Drogba, 6' 4'', already valued around 15m and is only 16. Worth a punt even if we loan him back to Anderlecht for a season.

2| yiddo1882 (188.221.9.148) 2010-05-11 10:07:50

CF is the priority and I would not mind Stephen Ireland for the midfield.

3| Mark (94.185.139.145) 2010-05-11 10:23:15

I agree with all said about playing with a loan striker. We have about 20M worth of Strikers sitting on the bench each week (wast of money)and the 2 playing are not up to CL standard but still value 20M. I think we are still weak in our fB positions and would like us to buy L Bains from Everton and M Richard from City along with 1 striker

4| Cheeky Gilly (137.191.238.232) 2010-05-11 10:24:37

Here we go again. We have a great squad of players and here we are telling Harry what to do once again. If we had qualified for CL we would be saying get rid of Harry and half the squad. This has got to be a strategic transfer activity. Who do we need, Woodgate Harry knows is finished, question marks over Leds as Harry knows. Harry knows we need a Centre Half, another midfielder and a striker. We all know that he was thinking this as soon as the final whistle went in eastlands. He will buy good players,so let him get on with it. In Harry we trust.

5| Al (86.161.88.4) 2010-05-11 10:29:51

We will not be buying or selling anybody before the World Cup Final I expect. Probably see some movement in August but not before.
The press will be full of speculation but Spurs take their time over these things.

The players I expect we would like to upgrade would include
O'Hara Hutton Santos Jenas Pav Keane

6| Mark (94.185.139.145) 2010-05-11 10:44:42

Spurs usually do most of their transfer dealings very late on in the window which I do not like, the new players then miss out of pre season with the new team. I know it is a world cup year but Harry must have a good idea who he needs/wants to strengthen Spurs already. A world cup usually puts players price tags up

7| Alan (194.116.198.179) 2010-05-11 10:51:22

Just speculating Gilly. Ironically you slate people who do it then start writing we need a centre half, midfielder and a striker. By putting Harry knows in front of it doesn't cover your tracks.

8| MKYid (94.9.147.115) 2010-05-11 10:53:24

I do agree that the forwards need addressing. Defoe and Pav for one position, Crouch and ? for the other (in a domestic 4-4-2).
Firstly we need a spare keeper...
I'm content with the defence (and would be more so if Woody were to return), the midfield is ok, Sandro will hopefully improve our mid but with Bentley, Lennon, Hudd, Palacios, Modric, Kranjcar, Bale and Rose we're well stocked! (Not to mention JJ...which I won't, Livermore, Bostock and Parrett).
That just leaves the strikers...Defoe will score goals, even if it's only against small teams but however you look at it, goals are goals and they win you games. Pav has redefined 'blowing hot and cold'....when he's hot he'll get goals but he don't half miss some when he's not. Crouch....ah Crouch, we hate him because we revert to long-ball when he plays and he isn't the most skillful of players, then he has a blinder against Citeh and scores the vital goal...! I think Crouch offers something in the right games and could be valuable next season. As for this other striker...I don't know who but we need someone strong, good in the air, who can score his fair share of goals and has a footballing brain because a lot of teams are going to ty and lock us out next season and we're going to need something/someone special to open them up.

9| Alan (194.116.198.179) 2010-05-11 10:55:03

I just hope we don't end up buying players on the strength of world cup performances. Pav was signed for 14m after the Euros when just before it he was being linked with celtic for just 5m.

In fairness, we are usually quite good at avoiding that. Zokora, Modric and Sandro were all purchased ahead of upcoming tournaments.

10| Mark (94.185.139.145) 2010-05-11 11:06:42

I think Fabiano from Seville could step up and play a loan striker. If Sandro does well that would mean 3 Brazilians in the team. Spare goalie could be Kasper Schmeichel from Notts Forest. Sorry but still think we are very weak in our full backs.

11| Cheeky Gilly (137.191.238.232) 2010-05-11 11:10:01

Alan, We all know who we would like to see arriving, however my position remains the same. Harry is a shrewd guy and he knows who he wants and who to get rid of. We all had questions about his policy of bringing back players eg Keane , Kaboul, Defoe, but eh. CL delivered. Speculation is what keeps us Spurs fans going through the summer. Veni, Vidi, Vici or as the ordinary among us translate from the Latin, He came, He Saw, He Conquered.

12| Mark (94.185.139.145) 2010-05-11 11:12:26

I need some of those happy pills

13| Alan (194.116.198.179) 2010-05-11 11:14:05

"Speculation is what keeps us Spurs fans going through the summer"

Couldn't agree with you more. He actually made these comments last week but I wasn't really bothered. Now that the season is over, speculation is needed to keep this site ticking over.

I have a lot of faith in Harry's transfers. I didn't want Kaboul back but he's been fantastic at right back. Didn't want Bellamy but I would have loved the contribution he gave to City last season to be a in spurs shirt. Chimbonda and Keane are the poor ones but you could argue they contributed to keeping us up.

14| Alan (194.116.198.179) 2010-05-11 11:16:46

On a side note, Zola sacked at West Ham and McClaren tacking the Wolfsburg job, could mean a return to the PL for Jol!

15| Mark (94.185.139.145) 2010-05-11 11:19:11

Would love to see Jol back, not sure I want to see West Ham improve though

16| Bobspurs (86.148.55.114) 2010-05-11 11:25:52

I don't think we are weak anywhere...if our squad is fit. If Woodie is not coming back, i would like to see us buy a new CB, but i like our options across the pitch...Having said that, i agree with Harry that if we could get a Marquee signing in, then that is worth doing. i am thinking Van der Vaart or...dare i say it Ballack on a free from Chelsea? I would love a Torres level forward...but apart from Aguero or Villa...neither of whom will come to us should they decide to leave their current clubs, i cant think of any decent options that will improve us.

17| Alan (194.116.198.179) 2010-05-11 11:27:54

I would be very surprised if Jol was successful under the chairmanship of Sullivan and Gold. They are too outspoken for any credible manager to enjoy working for them. Jol appears to have become stronger these days after his experiences with Comolli at spurs. If he feels he is being short changed or undermined, he'll walk away from it. Hamburg was a good example. His deal at Ajax, means he has complete control over who they buy (though ajax will always be a selling club).

18| Cheeky Gilly (137.191.238.232) 2010-05-11 11:28:58

The barren years were bad enough to cope with and the sh----t you got from the gooners. I want to enjoy the summer and bask in the speculation of who will be coming to our Club. Im off to Portugal in the Morning but some Icelandic gooner fan has put a cloud of ash over the Airport. But hey we are in the Champions League.

19| Mark (94.185.139.145) 2010-05-11 11:34:18

Have a nice holiday Cheeky I will just be getting earache from my girl friend

20| Alan (194.116.198.179) 2010-05-11 11:38:18

I hope you make it! I am just trying to book something myself. All I want is sun, beach and a few beers but my missus wants something called ayurvedic spa days. I don't know what that is yet but from experience, a strange exotic word followed by spa usually means it's going to cost me a lot money.

21| Mark (94.185.139.145) 2010-05-11 11:42:21

Hi Alan just looked it up on Wikipedia, it started out in India and then I got bored reading. Let her go with with her mother.

22| Alan (194.116.198.179) 2010-05-11 11:46:52

Haha, cheers Mark. Ironically that's exactly what happened to me when she tried to explain it, "it started out in India..." and I switched off. I thought of trying to sell the idea of her going alone, 'it'll be a break from me, life in general, allow you to recharge your batteries, why don't you do when the world cup is on?' I said. Didn't go down well.

23| Foggy (86.150.226.126) 2010-05-11 11:49:18

Yes we need a top striker, but also a classy central midfielder now Yaya Toure has been mentioned in the press and that could be a perfect fit for us.

The only trouble is we are going to struggle to sign the next level of player if we continue to pay less than our rivals, although I am happy with a pay structure I feel it now needs to be increased a little.

24| Cheeky Gilly (137.191.238.232) 2010-05-11 11:54:43

I heard that all the Arse players are goin to avail of this treatment, especially Gallas who is finding it difficult to relate with the team. The Spa apparently detox's you and makes you a fully fledged British player and will turn Walcott into a French man.

25| Alan (194.116.198.179) 2010-05-11 11:59:06

I agree Foggy that wages can be a stumbling block.

The problem with increasing the wage structure by even just a little is that players are vain. Most of the top ones have it in their contracts that they will be paid on a par with the top earner at the club. So even a 10k increase to allow one player would see a near 1m pound annual increase just paying off the existing players. The way round this is to give a new player a signing on fee. I would much rather we done that then tie ourselves long-term to champions league level wages when we are not yet really a champions league club. In my opinion, you need to qualify for it at least 2 years in a row to be that.

26| Mark (94.185.139.145) 2010-05-11 12:00:28

Alan the world cup offer did not go down well eh. Well last night I told my girlfriend I could not be faithful to her, Imagine how that went.

27| Alan (194.116.198.179) 2010-05-11 12:18:43

Yikes! Bolt on a spa day to that and you never know :)

In fairness, you've done well to still be alive!

28| Mark (94.185.139.145) 2010-05-11 12:23:07

I thought it a good idea at the time!

29| nobby nobbs (194.116.198.179) 2010-05-11 12:39:58

we need a striker for next season not to loan back but to play. I just hope its sorted sooner rather than later.Id favour fabiano over the the rest but bar Huntelar i know very little about them.

30| mdb (62.60.98.133) 2010-05-11 12:42:56

I see 4th spot as a target reached. Not for the glory of playing in the CL - although of course testing yourself against the best is what its all about - but by aiming for as high as possible in the PL. The money is second IMO.
Getting into the top4 seems to be the main target at the start of the season......and we've done that! we've broken the 'old' top4's hold on the positions.

It appears the CL will bring us 20m if we reach the group stages. possibly more if we better that. Wow thats great. except we aren't really in a position where we need 'money' as such. and in todays world 20m isn't much.

What we need is to consistently prove year on year that we are a top4 side. Yes the CL will assist in bringing the players to do that. But I would think the really good players will want to see us hold onto a CL for a few seasons before leaping to become a lilywhite.

Harry will already be trying to persuade some top names but with the very real reality of some others hidden in his back pocket

'In Harry we trust' has been noted on here before.
never has a truer word been written.
....well who else can we?

COYS!

31| Mark (94.185.139.145) 2010-05-11 12:47:08

Miroslav Klose could do a job for us Bayern Munich might sell at a price. better than we have at the moment

32| Canuck Yid (99.248.207.237) 2010-05-11 12:52:26

I agree that we need to sign a striker who can play the lone striker role. We cannot play CL football with no option other than 4-4-2.

33| Mark (94.185.139.145) 2010-05-11 12:55:40

Luca Toni at Roma on a six moth Loan from Munich could be a free agent a big lump at 6ft5 been called back into the Italian squad for this year. Also Partnered Klose for Munich

34| Archie (86.12.167.7) 2010-05-11 13:00:15

Great shout Mark!!
Luca Toni would be good.

35| yiddo1882 (188.221.9.148) 2010-05-11 13:02:54

Luca Toni or Klose??? I would like to think we can manage better than that!!

36| Alan (194.116.198.179) 2010-05-11 13:03:48

My choice would be Fernando Llorente at Bilbao. Looks a bit like Peter Crouch because of his 6ft 4 frame but he's a much better finisher and is also strong on the ball. Probably ranked 3rd best striker for spain behind Torres and Villa. He's cost at least 20mil though. I would have also taken Negredo from Real but that ship sailed last summer when he went to Seville. Also admired Kanoute. One of the best target men out there but blows hot and cold way to often. There are possibilities out there.

37| Mark (94.185.139.145) 2010-05-11 13:04:58

Fabiano, klose and Toni in Pav, Defoe, Kean out!

38| Alan (194.116.198.179) 2010-05-11 13:08:29

An older player might not be the worst idea. We are a little bit like a side that has just got promoted. We've got a bigger budget but can't garantuee having it long term. Someone with experience may make the difference to ensure we qualify for the CL for another year and build. If it doesn't work out, then we can just cancel the short term deal that player was on.

39| yiddo1882 (188.221.9.148) 2010-05-11 13:08:56

Higuain of Real Madrid. He is set to leave this summer, only 22, scored over 20 goals this season and apparently is only on 15k per week.

40| yiddo1882 (188.221.9.148) 2010-05-11 13:11:38

We don't want old mercenary players looking for one last pay day. If 'arry is only looking at buying one player then spend big and buy quality. Redknapp rates himself as a salesman, then he better start selling the club to the type of players we need.

41| Alan (194.116.198.179) 2010-05-11 13:14:00

I have seen him a few times Yiddo and he's a great finisher. Trouble with him is that he gets the same criticism as Defoe. Selfish, only scores against the lesser sides, doesn't hold the ball up etc. That's why they want to sell him.

42| Alan (194.116.198.179) 2010-05-11 13:17:57

I am torn with the idea. We have lots of young players at the club. They may not be able to cope with the burden of expectation at this level. If we get the wrong type of older player then yes he's a mercenary. However, if arrives with a point to prove then he may be the experience we need. Davids was a little like that for us. There's pros and cons to it all. A top young striker may have little or no experience at CL level and may himself need time to adjust and we don't really have it. Hard one to call.

43| Foggy (86.150.226.126) 2010-05-11 13:24:05

Chelsea are said to be lining up a seventy million pound bid for Torres, with Anelka being made available for transfer. Now however unlikely that might sound it could be worth making an approach.

44| mark (94.185.139.145) 2010-05-11 13:24:46

We need to sign players we can afford with CL experience we have to qualify. Klinsman was great for us. Imagine saying no to him because he was 30ish

45| Mark (94.185.139.145) 2010-05-11 13:27:58

A couple of big names up front could pull our young team up 20% through confidence and learning off them imagine how good we would be then. But they must be affordable.

46| Gray Man (83.100.154.102) 2010-05-11 13:29:44

Hey Guys. I have been trawlling through the web for days now, and to tell you the truth I'm a little dissappointed. It seemed on the run up to see who was going to get 4th place everyone other than man city fans want Spurs to get there, now we have its all" you have to qualify" dont count your chickens just yet. blah blah, and most dismiss our chances of even making it to the group stages. Have I missed something, have we until the recent seasons competed in Europe? All right not champs league but we have experince of europe. Did we not stamp all over Roma and Celtic in pre season a while back. I think our team is better suited to playing top sides, any how and think we could perfom quite well in Europe. Alright I dont see us beating Barca or Real Madrid every week, but hey either could Arsenal. And liverpool were a joke in everything so, rant over.

47| Foggy (86.150.226.126) 2010-05-11 13:35:03

I agree with Mark,Van Nistelrooy would have been perfect for us and according to a report on the web he was very close to agreeing a deal.Unfortunately though we only offered a six month contract, now if this is the case we need to be a little more adventurous with contracts, although to be honest it could be false journalism.

48| Gray Man (83.100.154.102) 2010-05-11 13:35:39

Oh and on transfers i only seeing us getting, 1.James on a free 2. Sandro already in the bag. 3. A centre back only if woody doesnt get fit!4. Keane to leave and I think we will Keep Pav, Defoe, Crouch and if Eider doesnt stay which i dont think he will a top name striker.

49| mdb (62.60.98.133) 2010-05-11 13:43:25

Foggy... I too thought Van N was a missed opportunity.
But after seeing him against Fulham (albeit on the tele) I'm not too sure

50| Foggy (86.150.226.126) 2010-05-11 13:52:50

Mdb,I didn't see that game, but I did see a couple of other games in Europe where he played really well.Still never mind let's just hope we can capture a class act from somewhere.

51| Alan (194.116.198.179) 2010-05-11 14:26:41

I felt the same way for a while GM. I think in general most reasonable minded fans will recognise the achievement. However, most forums are filled with weirdos (present company excluded of course) so don't give them the time of day. Like mdb posted earlier, I am just delighted with this season. Whether we qualify or not is something under next seasons calendar.

52| Mark (94.185.139.145) 2010-05-11 14:28:21

Ruud unfortunately gets injured a lot and also wants too much money. We will not be able to afford the likes of Torres, Ibrahimavic. Perhaps Huntelaar Harry might be able to get the best out of him, but could be another Pav

53| mdb (62.60.98.133) 2010-05-11 14:36:32

I think Harry will say that the 4 forwards we have (if you include Keane and not Gudjohnsen as 'our' players) are 4 quality forwards. All internationals. All 'class' on their day. All potentially international game winners.

we need to replace one (probably Keane) with someone who brings something different. someone who can win the ball up front. play on their own. with strength and passion. with a hunger for goals. with a desire to win at all costs.

not many of them around. if you find one you have to pay. which is where I think Harry is coming from when he says 'one expensive player'

54| Foggy (86.150.226.126) 2010-05-11 14:36:59

On another subject for a minute,it's great to see Dawson,King and Tom lining up alongside our other three England regulars in Defoe,Crouch and Lennon.Kind of makes you wonder how long it's been since Tottenham have had six players in a World Cup squad, albeit provisional.

55| ARCHIE (86.12.167.7) 2010-05-11 14:39:44

Surely Jenas merited a place on the plane?

Someone needs to hand out the orange slices at half time!!!

56| Alan (194.116.198.179) 2010-05-11 14:43:04

I was pleased they all got in. Recognition for a very good seasons. I suspect when it's reduced from 30 to 23 we'll see Tom and Daws drop out.

57| Mark (94.185.139.145) 2010-05-11 14:43:21

Wonder where Jenas will end up, just can't think who would pay his wage demands

58| Alan (194.116.198.179) 2010-05-11 14:45:49

Personally I think the final 23 will look like this.

Goalkeepers: Joe Hart, David James, Robert Green.

Defenders: Jamie Carragher, Ashley Cole, Rio Ferdinand, Glen Johnson, Ledley King, John Terry, Matthew Upson,

Midfielders: Gareth Barry, Joe Cole, Steven Gerrard, Adam Johnson, Frank Lampard, Aaron Lennon, James Milner, Theo Walcott.

Forwards: Darren Bent, Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe, Emile Heskey, Wayne Rooney.

59| Alan (194.116.198.179) 2010-05-11 14:47:50

Perhaps replace Adam Johnson for Scott Parker or Michael Carrick.

60| Foggy (86.150.226.126) 2010-05-11 14:48:07

Mark,
I read somewhere that he has been learning Italian which kind of backs up the reported interest from a certain MR Special One.

61| MKYid (94.9.147.115) 2010-05-11 14:48:23

apart from Barry being out injured and Walcott and Carragher being shit, yeah why not?!

62| Mark (94.185.139.145) 2010-05-11 14:50:00

Foggy so you reckon he is going to work for Pizza Express then

63| ARCHIE (86.12.167.7) 2010-05-11 14:50:58

dawson instead of carragher
Huddlestone instead of the injured barry

64| Foggy (86.150.226.126) 2010-05-11 14:52:12

Hey,smasha the pizza plates.

65| mdb (62.60.98.133) 2010-05-11 14:53:04

I think the 7 not to go......Barry(injured), Baines, Warnock, Upson, Thudd, Wright-Phillips and Bent

66| Spezza THFC (194.131.213.33) 2010-05-11 14:55:57

I'd like us to take a punt on Adriano on a free.. if Harry can get his mentality and fitness right. It would be the same as signing a 30m million pound striker.

67| Mark (94.185.139.145) 2010-05-11 14:56:19

Thinking about it Foggy I don't think he would cope with that job, he would just run around piZZing every one off

68| Perry Man (87.232.78.94) 2010-05-11 14:57:34

With Jenas's impeccable timing he is learning Italian just as the Special One heads for Spain or England.

69| mdb (62.60.98.133) 2010-05-11 14:58:37

Spezza....anyone of quality at zero cost will be on Harry's radar.
But Levy will be there with the wages cap.

70| Alan (194.116.198.179) 2010-05-11 14:59:41

I don't agree with the selection but I think Cappello will go with it.

Personally I wouldn't have brought Carragher back and if Barry is injured for a month then he shouldn't even be considered. Walcott is better than SWP IMO so I would have him as a back up to Lennon. I think this World Cup is one too early for Adam Johnson so J.Cole would be my pick.

71| Foggy (86.150.226.126) 2010-05-11 14:59:45

Very INTEResting play on words Mark.

72| Yiddo1984 (81.107.15.83) 2010-05-11 15:00:30

Knowing what harry is like in his transfer dealings he will bring in people he knows who are "experienced" players. i can bet you now that david james will sign and be the number two. i would also be unsurprised if sully muntari is bought in which would fit with the 4-5-1 formation. i would personally like us to sign simon kjaer at CB and say goodbye to woody (although a superb player he is unlikely to play for us or anyone for that matter again). We must keep hold of Modric with all these vultures circling i would be gutted to lose him more so than carrick and berbatov. He for me is the key especially now he is thriving in CM. A left back would be good as BAE is very hit and miss and a top quality striker, if we can't get one this summer then we never will! Fabiano is definitely in the right mould not that cart horse Luca Toni he is shockingly shite. COYS

73| Perry Man (87.232.78.94) 2010-05-11 15:02:20

Regarding a striker who can hold the ball up and bang in a few, I don't think I have seen anyone play that role better recently than Zamora. I know it was only a couple of games but they were in Europe, against pretty good opposition and against us too.

74| Foggy (86.150.226.126) 2010-05-11 15:06:03

I was surprised Zamora wasn't given a chance in this squad, you never know he may have fitted in perfectly.

75| Foggy (86.150.226.126) 2010-05-11 15:06:04

I was surprised Zamora wasn't given a chance in this squad, you never know he may have fitted in perfectly.

76| Alan (194.116.198.179) 2010-05-11 15:06:40

I agree with that Perry Man. Would like to see him doing it for another season though before considering to add him onto spurs ever going list of returning players. Sometimes players have these one freak seasons and this one definitely is going against the grain in Zamora's career. I was surprised he's not once been considered for England.

77| Foggy (86.150.226.126) 2010-05-11 15:06:52

Whoops,whoops.

78| Perry Man (87.232.78.94) 2010-05-11 15:10:26

I would have had Zamora there ahead of Heskie or even Carlton Cole could have proved explosive. Take Rooney out of that line up and they will need a lot of goals from midfield.

79| Mark (94.185.139.145) 2010-05-11 15:25:02

Dear god England is short of strikers I think my P.A. has a better pair

80| BIG MART (89.243.45.70) 2010-05-11 15:45:11

The press mention everyone so they can say 'told you first',what is
worrying is they do get the local whispers.
richards: the new titus bramble! just a muscle man no thanks.
j cole: utility,he's here he's there he's shite everywhere, where do you play him?.
Gudjohnson has not been used enough in the hole, the 433 debate is missunderstood by many people, teams set it up in different ways according to what they have available, ibra messi are not the same as
drog and anelka, van pers arsh. klin ted!.
hope the promoted sides spend dosh for 'EXPERIANCE' we have lots to sell! but we wont get decent money in these hard times, we need to pug some money up for this 'small extention' we are planning!

81| mdb (62.60.98.133) 2010-05-11 15:49:11

I think Heskey goes just because he seems to make the best 'pair' with Rooney. going on a proven pair that is. (not to say that Zamoroa wouldn't be. its just not been tried)

82| mdb (62.60.98.133) 2010-05-11 15:52:25

having said that Crouch will be pushing Heskey thats for sure.
Crouch has a knack of playing well for England on a regular basis

83| Alan (194.116.198.179) 2010-05-11 15:57:23

Now now Mark, I know you have expressed doubts over your ability to remain faithful but your PA? Bit too cliche? :)

84| Mark (94.185.139.145) 2010-05-11 16:00:20

Sorry Alan as much as I would like to I must not mix work with pleasure damn!!

85| MKYid (94.9.147.115) 2010-05-11 18:19:08

Yeah, thats my excuse for not banging my PA too....

86| yiddo1882 (188.221.9.148) 2010-05-11 18:37:22

Post 85...mine is that I am too ugly!!

87| tenchman (94.168.127.2) 2010-05-11 19:11:10

tottenham for england
six players in the provisional england squad from spurs

so going to love watching arsenal fans cheering england

ha ha

88| nobby nobbs (82.0.227.193) 2010-05-11 20:09:35

i always thought that Klose's game centred on fitness and pace. The premiership is fierce I am not sure if klose and the donkey Toni are up to it.Toni has been coming to us for the last 5 years FFS. Joe Cole, I cannot see what he would gain at WHL. Before Bale discovered electricity I saw Cole cutting in from the left ..not now not really unless he will accept the WHL bench as much as the Stamford Bridge bench.

89| Alan (87.74.138.227) 2010-05-11 20:49:56

He could also ask Cudicini on which bench is more comfortable?

90| yiddo1882 (188.221.9.148) 2010-05-12 07:39:09

Cole is 29 in November. Even if we signed him on a free we would still have to pay wages of roughly 100k p.w. for a player who is coming to the end of his career.

91| Alan (194.116.198.179) 2010-05-12 09:28:18

He's a very good player but not worth breaking the wage structure for. If he arrived I wouldn't class him as our best player so why pay him more so much more than anyone else?

There's got to be something wrong after 3 top chelsea managers fail to select him regularly.

92| raver (86.41.213.14) 2010-05-12 09:57:32

who ever wants TONI to be spurs new striker should be shot. have they ever watch the man play, for fuc@ sake he makes heskey look good.

93| Craig Grant (192.158.34.20) 2010-05-12 12:30:26

15 Mark (94.185.139.145) 2010-05-11 11:19:11
Would love to see Jol back, not sure I want to see West Ham improve though

I wouldn't worry about that !

94| Craig Grant (192.158.34.20) 2010-05-12 12:32:23

As Yiddo1882 has said, Higuian would be a fantastic signing. I'd want him and Fabiano. Then we could not only qualify for the Champions Legaue but we could also have a bloody good go at it too.

95| mdb (62.60.98.133) 2010-05-12 13:05:07

whoever comes in will only be after they have a great WC and their price has doubled.

96| Perry Man (87.232.78.94) 2010-05-12 13:10:07

Levy went out and got Modric before the last Euros. Hopefully he can do the same thing. How does Sandro's Work permit work now that he is not in the Brazil World Cup Squad. Does he already have one?

97| Alan (194.116.198.179) 2010-05-12 13:19:47

I can't provide a definitive answer Perry Man, but when it was announced on the official site, it only mentioned it was subject to a medical.

98| Archie (86.12.167.7) 2010-05-12 14:00:51

Bring in Luca Toni!!!
That will make ravers day!!!

99| Alan (194.116.198.179) 2010-05-12 14:29:47

Is anyone else worried that it can only go down hill from here?

Call me negative but realistically we are not going to do much better than 4th. Fans this season were saying this could be our last chance of making the champions league because city will push on, Liverpool will improve etc, and when they do, what then for us? The standards have been raised. I'd be interested to hear what fans expectations are for next season. This year most fans would have accepted a top 6 place. What for next?

100| mdb (62.60.98.133) 2010-05-12 14:37:39

I think expectation should always be for us to compete with the best. The best 'generally' beat the teams 8th place and lower.
we need to be doing that on a regular basis.

Losing 6 points to Wolves is a shocking stat.

101| Alan (194.116.198.179) 2010-05-12 14:45:05

It strange really because if we don't get 4th next year I can see myself being disappointed with that. I think Harry, despite what he says in the media, will know that. A lot will depend on our transfer dealings. If we stay as we are, I'll expect a top 6 finish and be grateful for anything above that. If we sign the Huntelaar's and Higiun's then I would expect 4th again. I feel we over-achieved this year (taking advantage of City (no injuries) and Liverpool who under-achieved). Therefore we need to spend big just to stand still. mdb, I know what you mean about those defeats and perhaps one or two of them can be reversed but in a season, every team gets freak results (chelsea lost away to wigan). We offset those with a couple of freak results of our own. They tend to level themselves out over a season. I was really pissed off with the Burnley game though. Meant nothing but I wanted the points and the pride. Rubbish way to bow out.

102| ARCHIE (86.12.167.7) 2010-05-12 14:51:06

I really think we can go for the title next year!!
We have to bring in 1 or 2 special players and also keep our best players - i.e tell utd and chelsea to go fcuk themselves!! We are a well run club with no debt we don't need to sell these players and we have champions league football. the attraction for these special players is there!!

103| mdb (62.60.98.133) 2010-05-12 14:55:31

Alan and equally I was pissed off with the Pompey semi final. we had a real chance to win a trophy.

which lends itself to...would we take finishing outside the top4 but winning a cup?

I don't think we have overachieved because the others failed. the league table generally never lies. we are the 4th best.
I don't see Liverpool, City, Villa or Everton having a better squad than us next season so why can't we finish 4th again. If the Arse fail to land a decent striker and goalkeeper we could overtake them as well.
I think Chelski and Manure a still a little way off!

but we have to stop dropping points to the lower sides. I would include the Pompey semi in that. we dropped 3 points in that game to a side we shouldn't have.

104| yiddo1882 (188.221.9.148) 2010-05-12 15:44:06

Times reporting John Terry has broken his metatarsal and will miss the world cup...there is karma afterall!!

105| Craig Grant (192.158.34.20) 2010-05-12 15:49:20

Terry out of the WC - does that secure Dawsons place with a Tottenham centre back pairing as 1st choice?

106| ARCHIE (86.12.167.7) 2010-05-12 15:49:36

IF thats true Dawson and King will both go to the world cup. Then perhaps Capello might ask Wayne Bridge to join up with the squad

107| Perry Man (87.232.78.94) 2010-05-12 15:57:13

I don't often wish bad luck on another Human Being but Terry is not a nice person and as Yiddo says, what goes around comes around. I don't think this will weaken the England Cause.
On another matter what do you guys think of Scholes not coming out of International retirement when Capello asked him. I think it's a disgrace not to want to play for your country.

108| Craig Grant (192.158.34.20) 2010-05-12 16:08:27

It's hot in SA PM. Scholes would have to wear factor 90 and wear a hat. He's safer at home.

But yes, if your country needs you you answer their call. Ledley is going to be a cripple in a few years but he's going.

109| MKYid (94.9.147.115) 2010-05-12 17:04:29

Apparently it's not broken but he will need further scans to investigate possible ligament damage...fingers crossed!!

110| Baron von Wenger (193.200.150.152) 2010-05-12 17:14:28

A Tottenham centre back pairing... we're screwed!

111| MKYid (94.9.147.115) 2010-05-12 17:21:51

You needn't worry Baron...you're French.

112| Baron von Wenger (193.200.150.152) 2010-05-12 17:38:26

Well, that at least means I have a foreskin.

113| Alan (87.74.139.221) 2010-05-12 18:00:22

Yep, you're just a dick Baron.

114| raver (86.41.194.66) 2010-05-12 18:25:35

lets hope england get knocked out early so spurs players can rest for next season

115| Nemo (86.135.66.162) 2010-05-12 19:17:13

Good luck Fulham and the ex Spurs Murphy, Zammo, Davies and Konch.
Will be very tough but they have done it so far.

116| nobby nobbs (82.0.227.193) 2010-05-12 21:55:16

BVW we're screwed... with Sol CB at the emirates youv'e been screwed nearly all season a few more weeks wont hurt.

117| nobby nobbs (194.116.198.179) 2010-05-13 09:20:18

pav for benayoun subliminal move for Modric in my book,Red Nose Media in your area, there is no comic relief in selling Modric.

118| Alan (87.74.139.221) 2010-05-13 10:16:39

Benayoun for Pav plus 2m. Just doesn't make any financial or sporting sense. Maybe a PR stunt to satisfy the local following?

119| raver (86.41.212.248) 2010-05-13 10:29:56

more useless storys today. benayoun no thanks. if selling pav, sell him abroad, dont give pool any help for next season.

120| ARCHIE (86.12.167.7) 2010-05-13 10:32:03

I KNOW RAVER BUT, AT LEAST ITS NOT LUCA TONI!!!!

121| RIDDTHEYID (81.134.10.180) 2010-05-13 10:36:10

A mate of mine stayed at The Radisson Hotel Manchester on Sat night, and the spurs squad were also staying there. he said at breakfast Defoe was slagging of Joe Cole for wanting too much money to come to Spurs and we weren't prepared to break our wage structure for him even tho he would be on a free transfer and we would be better off keeping hold of Modric as he is a better player.

122| Alan (87.74.139.221) 2010-05-13 10:43:53

If it's true that Ever Banega at Valencia is available for 8m, he'd be a great signing. Especially if Modric goes.

123| Archie (86.12.167.7) 2010-05-13 10:59:30

Why on earth would we sell Modric? Unless:
Someone offered silly money 40-50m ish
We need to realise that we are now one of the best clubs in england!!
We beat the goons and the chavs at home and we have champions league.
We shouldn't sell to are rivals.
Old rednose can keep his bargain basement, used has beens.
Levy and harry should tell him and others to fcuk off

124| Craig Grant (192.158.34.21) 2010-05-13 12:21:58

If we sell Modric after finishing 4th then we may as well all just give up. What would the point be?

125| raver (86.41.212.248) 2010-05-13 14:23:58

agree with you craig. champion league should keep him happy. archie are you luca toni agent. ha ha, your f if you are you could not give him away

126| Archie (86.12.167.7) 2010-05-13 14:28:40

Maybe if Toni spoke french he could go to the goons!!!!

127| MKYid (94.9.147.115) 2010-05-13 15:29:02

Maybe if Toni was 12 he could go to the goons!

128| archie (86.12.167.7) 2010-05-13 15:39:32

Perhaps Toni has a 12 year old son who Arsene can manipulate....

129| raver (86.41.212.248) 2010-05-13 15:58:02

he cpould be jol's kit man

130| nobby nobbs (82.0.227.193) 2010-05-14 09:30:24

Alan you are suffering from Post Season Melancholy mate. We finished 4th and hopefully will get passed the qualifying rounds. Then think of the teams that could come to WHL, fantastic. My biggest fear is the missus wanting a shopping trip if we play in Milan. Its her money, but feigning interest in exotic purchases once football fever and Peroni take hold.....best hope we get Munich.

131| Alan (194.116.198.179) 2010-05-14 09:34:15

Quite possibly Nobby. I can't believe it's friday and we have no game to look forward to!

132| nobby nobbs (82.0.227.193) 2010-05-14 10:14:33

Alan I know what you mean mate, but by the end of a season I am done in. Think of it as a bit of A/L before the world cup.How about O'Hara and Hutton to Stoke and Shawcross to us ?

133| raver (83.71.100.131) 2010-05-14 11:01:10

i like todays striker linked with spurs, Wolfsburg hitman Dzeko. but knowing spurs we will end up with toni, i hear archie is in talks with levy about doing a deal. long summer of transfer talk ahead. also fab to barca talks i am enjoying. that would be a kick in the nuts for wenger.

134| Craig Grant (192.158.34.20) 2010-05-14 11:47:56

Wenger loves a kick in the nuts.

135| Canuck Yid (99.248.207.237) 2010-05-14 11:55:57

I hate to bring up the subject, but if we're looking for a quality striker who can hold the ball, occupy defenders, create, score, and play as a lone striker when needed, wouldn't Berbatov be our man? Would that even be a consideration?

136| Craig Grant (192.158.34.20) 2010-05-14 12:01:30

If he was available at the right price then yes, Canuck, but Utd would sting us for him and also he says he's reached the pinnacle....and he has. Taking a step back now would leave him empty I think. All that hard work to get to his dream club and then he ends up back with us. I can't see him putting that much effort in if he came back. I'd look elsewhere. He'd be at least 15mill and that would be too much of a risk.

137| Perry Man (87.232.78.94) 2010-05-14 12:02:34

I have divided opinion on that one Canuck. If we were getting the Berba who played for us two years ago I might, just might, be willing to swallow my pride and let the twat back. But if we were getting the limp, lazy, lump who has been playing for Utd lately, no thanks.

138| Alan (194.116.198.179) 2010-05-14 12:18:42

I read somewhere that he's scored 26 goals in 65 appearances so he's not been too bad over there. Those stats are hiding some poor performances but Fergie has lost faith in him so that may explain the slumped shoulders and downcast attitude. Harry would get him playing again. He'll pander to his ego and we'll see better results. He's was brilliant at spurs. Would love to see how he'd link up with Modric (in a spurs shirt not OT!).

My only reservation is his age (no resale value) but if he's willing to re-sign that's enough for me to think he's up to the challenge.

139| nobby nobbs (82.0.227.193) 2010-05-14 12:47:18

Berbatov can be a quality player but it is the hardest bit to fix which is malfunctioning, his head. Too often he is an idle, sulking, arrogant tosser who feels he should determine how much contribution he makes to the team, regardless of others efforts. He is a has been.No dealing with Manu they will expect to much in return.

140| Gray Man (83.100.154.102) 2010-05-14 12:53:50

Not related to Berbatwat, but did anyone see Wenger do his interview where he said that there are two trophies, one for winning the title and one for qualifying for the champions league and that they have been doing that for 13 years( Bit of a dig at us I Know) but maybe someone should tell him about the FA Cup and League cup , maybe he didnt realise and just maybe if someone had of said something they might have gone out to win those two!!!! He is a prize twat!

141| YiddenAgenda (62.77.175.114) 2010-05-14 13:10:59

So by his math the doubles he won in 1998 2002 were only league wins?
What a cockjockey!

142| Perry Man (87.232.78.94) 2010-05-14 13:11:04

I'd like to see those 13 trophies in the trophy cabinet at the effeminates.

143| Alan (194.116.198.179) 2010-05-14 13:21:11

He's just trying to justify his under-achievement by saying look at how happy Tottenham fans are with 'just' reaching fourth. It appears that Arsenal are now using us a benchmark to judge themselves which is a backhanded compliment as they are starting to notice us. If I was a gooner, I'd be demanding my club look upwards and not worry about those below us. You'd see Fergie or Abramovich being happy with just CL qualification. They are more than capable of winning the league. The amount of money they make on a match day is almost disgusting.

144| Alan (194.116.198.179) 2010-05-14 13:22:00

You don't see fergie....

145| nobby nobbs (82.0.227.193) 2010-05-14 14:33:16

...with a bucket up his asre

146| Alan (194.116.198.179) 2010-05-14 14:41:24

...and without a bottle whiskey up his nose!

147| Wooly (86.173.241.72) 2010-05-15 07:24:38

Come on Spurs lets get them new players in early this time.

Then they have time to settle in before the new season starts.

I know Levy likes to save a few quid doing last minute deals but we have some big games coming up real soon.

148| Wooly (86.173.241.72) 2010-05-15 07:27:23

Good luck to Pompey today.

Their fans deserve some success today after the season they have had.

149| nobby nobbs (82.0.227.193) 2010-05-15 11:59:52

Seconded

150| Alan (87.74.138.72) 2010-05-15 16:41:46

I feel for pompey's supporters like everyone else but pompey as a club have had more luck than they deserve.

Whilst everyone else is expected to pay their bills on time, they have got way with I.O.U's on I.O.U's. They owe the HMRC (effectively the public) something like 10m. 130m in debt (which for a tiny club like theirs is astonishing). Small local creditors will have to make do with 20 pence to the pound. The story behind the scenes is shameful and they have made a mockery of the PL. The thing that grates me the most is that despite all this, they actually considered an appeal to play European football next season.

I wanted them to beat Chelsea but that's only because I hate chelsea.

151| nobby nobbs (82.0.227.193) 2010-05-15 18:37:10

Alan .. it has nothing to do with the players or the fans..its easy to forget thats what football is. What went on behind the scenes id disgraceful the fact that numerous owners were deemed fit for purpose, is a scandal, the supposed fact that one of the financial gurus at the club had convictions for fraud and could not practice in his own country is a scandal, the fact the premiership did not step in is disgusting, i hope when Englands bid for the world cup is studied some of this is examined more closely.Bled dry by scum marshalled by no-one yes it is a shame for the creditors, but Pompey are a long way from being out of the woods.

152| Alan (92.29.16.177) 2010-05-15 18:56:59

Well said Nobby. Pompey's problems run deep.

To think after all those people you've mentioned, that their fans list harry as the root of their problems.

153| Alan (87.74.138.72) 2010-05-15 22:47:35

Anyone read this?

http://arsenalaction.wordpress.com/2010/05/15/exclusive-spurs-beat-arsenal-in-race-for-12m-turkish-winger/ comment-15817

Apologies in advance if the link doesn't work. In short, some Arsenal forum are claiming we beat them to Arda Turam a turkish winger.

154| Alan (87.74.138.72) 2010-05-15 22:49:22

Amazing scenes for Seville. They just scored a last minute goal to claim fourth ahead of Mallorca.

155| nobby nobbs (82.0.227.193) 2010-05-16 07:14:59

the scariest thing about the Pompey situation is that there does not seem to be a mechanism to stop the same thing happening anytime anywhere.
Turkish player big market Turkey, wouldnt mind a preseason out there sometime soon.Mind you its bloody hot in August.

156| nobby nobbs (82.0.227.193) 2010-05-16 07:53:21

Lord Cheeseman...sums up the FA and everything thats rotten in our game.Football deserves something better then jobs for the boys.
If Levy sanctions the sale of Modric he will go from hero to cant by signing on the line. Shape up Daniel Levy the players have done it, the coach has done it and the fans have been doing it for years and now you have to stand firm. Modric is ideal for the CL and staying in the competition, Benayoun do me a favour,no bullshit,no caving in,we are a massive club in a small ground,we have waited for the CL for years do not insult us by selling one of our best. Luca Modric plays for Spurs end of. Do not lose your bottle now Mr Levy.... dont you fcken dare.COYS

157| Baron von Wenger (193.200.150.125) 2010-05-16 09:42:42

Don't be na ve Nobbs. Modric will be sold on the last day of the transfer window to the highest bidder. A nice bonus for the shareholders and no money wasted on a replacement. Good business!

158| nobby nobbs (82.0.227.193) 2010-05-16 09:56:28

BVW I hope youre wrong. I tell you what the FA need Arsenal's groundsman to sought out the Wembley pitch.

159| MKYid (94.9.147.115) 2010-05-16 11:47:56

I feel the new Wembley and it's pitch are a very good reflection on the FA themselves in respect of the fact it's fuking useless!

160| ParkLane (86.161.201.25) 2010-05-16 15:25:41

Dont worry Nobby. If we sell Modric we will bring in a replacement.

We replaced Carrick with Zokora and Berbatov with Frazier Campbell.

So I have every confidence in the club.

161| Craig Grant (81.159.165.57) 2010-05-16 19:27:18

"If Sol Campbell can't get in the 30 best players in this country, then wooah, there must be something going on there" - Sol Campbell, Goals on Sunday this morning.

Deluded lying Judas pr1ck !

162| MKYid (94.9.147.115) 2010-05-16 20:20:39

I hate Campbell...I really do. Nobody who lives their life so far detached from reality should be allowed to hold a position of any significance within modern society. Lock him away in an asylum somewhere and leave him to his delusions, I'm sure he'll be happy lost in the void that is his own mind, he'll be secure in a padded room, rocking back and fourth, convincing himself that he has done no wrong in his life and that he is the greatest footballer ever, while a little bit of dribble hangs from the corner of his mouth...

163| mdb (89.168.73.90) 2010-05-16 21:28:10

even when he's on the pitch his face says that he thinks he's above everyone else. the bloke's a tw@t

164| YiddenAgenda (62.77.175.114) 2010-05-17 08:41:44

Ha ha. He didn't seriously speak about himself in the 3rd person?
Has he toatlly lost it? Or have the other personalities begun to take over?
" there must be something going on there" Yeah, it's called sanity and reason you Walter Mitty, take it up the sh1tty, dirty judas cant!

165| YiddenAgenda (62.77.175.114) 2010-05-17 08:42:50

totally

166| MKYid (94.9.147.115) 2010-05-17 10:08:07

Speaking of total fuking idiots. Triesman, clearly a bit of a nob for being caught out accusing Spain and Russia of corruption but... The person he was talking to was supposed to be a friend and, lets be honest, it shouldn't matter too much what you say to a friend in private. So he was grassed to the Daily Mail, and what did the proud English paper do? They went for the 'big story' and essentially fuked up the entire 2012 bid for the country. The Daily Mail (Sunday Mail) say they had a 'moral responsibility' to report the story but the fact is, 1) the media have no morals. 2)And shouldn't their prime responsibility be the interests of the Country? Only in England do the media feel the need to shit on their own country.

167| nobby nobbs (85.12.64.148) 2010-05-17 10:31:15

MK YId The British Media are shite granted but 2 things.. what if Cheeseman believes the comments he made re Spain and Russia are true,.Why is it a secret ? and/or Why is a silly old tosser who has been useless at everything he has turned his hand to wnaking off to a woman less than half his age. We know the British Media are shite, all except the tosser that used to run the 2018 World Cup bid. Good Riddance .No more gravy for the cheese.

168| Craig Grant (192.158.34.20) 2010-05-17 11:07:16

To be fair to the British media all the papers were offered this story but they all steered well clear because they knew the damage it would cause. The Daily Mail and the woman involved are to balme in all of this and both parties seem to be getting away with it. Triesman has lost 2 jobs through saying a few off the record things...which we all do.

169| YiddenAgenda (62.77.175.114) 2010-05-17 11:56:10

We all say sh1t off the record but we make sure we're not caught!

170| MKYid (94.9.147.115) 2010-05-17 12:31:33

How can you make sure you're not caught when the person you talking to is a grass with a tape recorder!!?

171| Craig Grant (192.158.34.21) 2010-05-17 12:35:57

She was fit, what was he supposed to do? Not try and impress her?

172| YiddenAgenda (62.77.175.114) 2010-05-17 12:37:54

Well if he was talking to his secretary surely she'd be naked or at least vigorously frisked?

173| nobby nobbs (85.12.64.148) 2010-05-17 12:51:38

you only talk when she is naked..case solved

174| mdb (62.60.98.133) 2010-05-17 12:56:25

did I miss someone mention Ballack is missing the WC!
ha ha ha ha.....couldn't happen to a nicer bloke.

good old KPB
had enough of Germany. trying to play for Ghana. retribution??? I doubt he's clever enough

175| Craig Grant (192.158.34.21) 2010-05-17 13:04:16

KPB definitely too Ballack out on purpose after an earlier incident.

176| Topspur (141.228.106.148) 2010-05-17 13:05:31

Ballack tried to give KPB a clip round the ear.... Soon regretted it...

177| mdb (62.60.98.133) 2010-05-17 13:20:02

and just on the cup final.

KPB misses penalty. shocking one I have to say.
And does anyone think O'Hara could have got a head on Drogshites free kick??? looked like he moved out of the way to me

178| Craig Grant (192.158.34.21) 2010-05-17 13:30:47

So O'Hara doesn't want to sit on the bench at Spurs then. He wants to play guaranteed first team football. Who can offer him that then? I wouldn't have thought any Prem club could/would.

179| YiddenAgenda (62.77.175.114) 2010-05-17 13:46:07

In regards to Ledleys new deal, supposedly 4M a season. Which works out at over 75k a week. Does that mean we've upped our ceiling on wages?
Curse or blessing?
Could get us bigger names in or could cripple us if Levy lets it get out of hand.

180| BIG MART (78.149.189.205) 2010-05-17 15:40:53

Post 166 mk yid totally correct. the press dont want to see the big
picture its a story we should start a campaign on line that every football supporter never buys the paper again (i never do).
how do you get it started? you guys must know, i dont!
secondly that scheaming bitch set him up before he had said a word!!!. you dont tape private conversations!,what was she up to?
hoping for a snidey story ? mission accomplished, she seems to have
got away with it to count her pieces of silver, slimey c@nt.

181| BIG MART (78.149.189.205) 2010-05-17 16:45:26

Just spent 30 mins talking to sun sports dept,(think it was the cleaner). they (he) has no interest in going after the mail,i guess he drinks with him at the games, and no interest in her either, she is free to spend her judas dosh!.
also tried to do a bit on the Man u chat line, not easy, you need to sign up etc,
So help if you can to spread the word BOYCOTT THE MAIL.
They have done blatters job for him!,stabbed england in the back just to report a silly old twats ramblings, thanks a lot.

182| MKYid (94.9.147.115) 2010-05-17 18:35:55

She was obviously hopeing to be the next Faria Alam (the bird Ericsson banged). Clearly Triesman didn't think this girl was out to entrap him, probably due to the masses of younger women knocking on his door. After all how could he possibly know this young attractive woman wasn't interested in him for his looks and youthful exuberance and that she was merely tapeing every conversation she had with the head of the England 2012 commitee so she could dish some dirt and make some cash...how could he know? As disgraceful as her actions are the DM still need to be held to account for being stupid enough to print the story and in doing so almost wreck Englands chance of bringing football home!

Big Mart, boycotting the Mail isn't a problem for me as I don't buy it....maybe you could start an Anti-Daily Mail Facebook group or something. I'm sure, if this story does negatively affect the bid, there will be plenty of folks joining. (and thats not including those that just join every fuking group going!!)

183| Baron von Wenger (193.200.150.125) 2010-05-17 18:45:58

BIG M, you can set up an online petition at http://www.petitiononline.com/ Your petition won't look insignificant at all, on that site runs a petition to keep Nacho Novo at Rangers Football CLub.

184| COME ON YOU SPURS (80.229.43.81) 2010-05-18 12:50:35

Sir Alan Sugar wants Triersmans job.

185| Simon (148.106.128.38) 2010-05-18 14:16:10

i'd like to start a petition to have the national anthem played before every league and cup game in England. They do it in USA. i know we have many foreign players in the league. but lets not forget where we are, and what we represent... it would also shame those Arsenal kunts when not one player of theirs knew the anthem!

186| nobby nobbs (194.116.198.179) 2010-05-18 14:41:15

Simon..no thanks,I wish they would play Derek May ..'Icon' before every game... royalty not for me fella.

187| Simon (148.106.128.38) 2010-05-18 15:05:24

i hear you Nobby. thats fair enough. but British football is the best in the world. why not be proud of that and play the anthem before each game.... not claiming any love of the monarch. more my/our nation.

188| BIG MART (89.241.158.77) 2010-05-18 18:21:45

Simon ENGLISH footbal is the best in the world. scots, irish, welsh,is
shite. we are ENGLISH, (well some of us) I am not british!!!.
my team qualified for the world cup,and it sure aint britain.
the above countries mostly dont like england, personaly i have no dislike at all of them, but thats the way it is.
p.s is that the same alan sugar that threw jugans shirt away on camera?, frying pan fire springs to mind!.

191| yiddo1882 (188.221.9.148) 2010-05-19 09:55:30

Interesting posts concerning Triesman. Personally I don't see what the Daily Mail has done wrong. Cannot believe people want to gag the press because of a 'World Cup' bid...freedom of the press is important.

192| Archie (86.12.167.7) 2010-05-19 10:42:42

Yiddo 1882... Not when they s@it on there own doorstep in search of a profit!! Its Unpatriotic!! The Mail is the Arsenal of the Press - Not looking out for the best interests of football in england.

193| Perry Man (87.232.78.94) 2010-05-19 10:47:44

I think a private conversation should be respected. If someone is saying one thing in public and the total opposite in private then by all means expose them, but I'm sure most people would say things in private that would be embarrassing if plastered over the newstands.

194| yiddo1882 (188.221.9.148) 2010-05-19 10:55:51

Archie...Unpatriotic is way over the top. The freedom of the press is important...if this is suppressed then where does it stop? There is a wider issue at stake, more important than a world cup bid.

As for 'not in the best interests of English football', it can be argued that by revealing these idiots in charge at the FA will hopefully mean a shake up and so English football will benefit in the future.

195| Craig Grant (192.158.34.21) 2010-05-19 11:48:28

If you think the Mail are doing it in the interests of football then couldn't they have investigated the allegations first. Or maybe gone to the FA or even Fifa with them? They were after the money, they aren't trying to do anyone a favour here.

196| Simon (148.106.128.38) 2010-05-19 13:08:17

I dont believe the Triesman incident will stop us getting the world cup in 2018.... Our bid will be viewed on the merits of stadium, crowds, transport etc... the pisssed ramblings of an old codger out to impress a young bird wont have any bearing on it. if anything, the other voters are equally old codgers and will say "good on you Lord T, here's my vote!"......

197| yiddo1882 (188.221.9.148) 2010-05-19 13:41:40

CG...Of course the Mail are doing it for the money! They are a business answering to shareholders. But to blame them for the stupidity and horniness of an individual does not make sense.

198| Perry Man (87.232.78.94) 2010-05-19 13:43:49

the loss is immeasureable,,you take away his stats and their is a massive hole to fill,a new player has to settle in and hit the ground running, top scorer, schemer etc it wont happen soon enough.
Feel so sad for our north london neighbours.

229| MKYid (94.9.147.115) 2010-05-21 11:07:21

Nobby, our first set of plans were rejected so we came back with plan B. They are being considered now. Have a look on http://www.dearmrlevy.com/dml/2010/5/20/the-bill-nicholson-stadium-thank-you-very-much.html

230| Perry Man (87.232.78.94) 2010-05-21 14:06:03

I see Rio Ferdinand is saying King can play holding midfield role. What a tosser, he's obviously worried King will take his place.

231| Alan (194.98.196.2) 2010-05-21 15:29:51

The planning submission has been removed from the Haringey council website. I viewed it last week so I assume it's been rejected and new ones are being formulated for submission. The new plan has resulted in significant loses for us.

The news ones (which dear mr levy have good images of) are more pleasing on the eye but crucially the increase in public space means we have lost nearly 200 apartments that we were going to sell. Not sure about the hotel but the size of the supermarket appears to have been reduced as well. We've also committed to bring 4 listing back up to date. So less profit but hopefully the plans will be accepted. I am guessing we've lost a year as well so sponsors are unlikely to commit this season (my guess). Shame after the on field success.

Privately it must a big blow.

232| yiddo1882 (188.221.9.148) 2010-05-21 17:16:28

Post 231...The fact that Spurs were able to produce a plan B so quickly suggests that the original proposal was just 'trying their luck' and the second proposal is obviously the one they feel will be accepted.

233| MKYid (94.9.147.115) 2010-05-21 18:19:06

I don't think it was such a huge blow. As Yiddo1882 says, THFC have produced a second plan lively, which suggests they had it ready. Any initial plan that involed tearing down listed buildings was probably expected to fail so, I'd assume Levy knew this and budgeted for the second plan. No harm in submitting the first application because it would be more profitable should it go through, though should it not, THFC make a concession and appear to be the all-caring club.

When we went down the first game of the season was Blackpool away we had 9 in a Marina, two in the boot. We won 2-0 the rest..well its out there somewhere.

no benayoun for spurs , good , we dont need him, anyway hes going to chelsea, now i want us to get dzeko, and turan, sweet.

240| nobby nobbs (82.0.227.193) 2010-05-24 10:06:49

Benayoun is a good player but i could not see him and Modric in the same team, and Modric is class.
I hope we buy early rather then late but I suppose some of that will depend on sales of players.

Was it the first away game Nobby. When up on Keithy Robbins coaches, left Tottenham Midnight on Friday, Left Blackpool Midnight on the Saturday: Mayhem!

242| nobby nobbs (82.0.227.193) 2010-05-24 11:34:15

ACS yeah I am fairly sure it was. I think alot of people became more staunch in their support and the first showing of that was at Blackpool we took thousands up, we had half of that huge end. I am happy to be put ricght because frankly some of that season is a little bit altered states (ron trent).

243| nobby nobbs (82.0.227.193) 2010-05-24 11:53:42

the game was actually in mid September 1977( Happy days) so was probably not the first away game. That was a mad season.

244| Alfie Conns Sideburns (94.171.174.118) 2010-05-24 13:28:16

Yeh it was. especially as we nearly blew it, when Southampton hit the bar in the last game, when we needed a draw, typical Spurs. I went to nearly all the games that season, including Millwall away.

245| yiddo1882 (188.221.9.148) 2010-05-24 13:44:30

First game of that season was at home to Sheff Utd, we won 4-2. Pretty sure the first away game was Hull City and a 0-0 draw.

246| Alfie Conns Sideburns (94.171.174.118) 2010-05-24 15:05:08

Wasn't Hull our last home game of the season as well, we won 1-0?

247| Baron von Wenger (193.200.150.137) 2010-05-24 17:13:42

No new article for months. I know your club is uninspiring, but I didn't realise it was this bad.

248| MKYid (94.9.147.115) 2010-05-24 17:37:04

...says the Gooner on the Spurs site!

249| nobby nobbs (82.0.227.193) 2010-05-24 18:10:51

I reckon it was Blackburn away.I went Cardiff in the FA Cup the following year, lost 1-0. bananas

250| yiddo1882 (188.221.9.148) 2010-05-24 18:16:01

ACS...Yep, Stevie Perryman scored with a few minutes to go. The goal should have been disallowed as their Keeper was being held back.

251| Alan (87.74.138.233) 2010-05-24 18:21:06

Or we could be bitching about why our best player desperately wants to go home or trying to figure out where all that money the club makes on match days and player sales disappears too?

Then again, that kind of 'inspirational' dialogue is only relevant for Arsenal fans.

252| AlabamaBlackSnake (212.85.14.107) 2010-05-27 12:42:36

Klass Jaan Huntelaar is the striker that we need up top, his link and hold up play is of a CL standard and the boy knows where the back of the net is, Real Madrid and AC Milan, two of the most decorated clubs in European Cup history saw something in him so why should we not take a gamble on him?
