Luka Modric has joined team mate Gareth Bale in signing a new deal which the club were keen to point out is for a whooping 6 years.
Speaking about his new contract and future ambitions, Luka said, "Tottenham Hotspur gave me my chance in the Premier League and I want to go on to achieve great success here with them. Yes, there have been enquiries from other big clubs, but I have no interest in going anywhere. Last season's Top 4 finish was an indication of where we are as a Club and I feel I can continue to improve and go on to achieve everything I want to at Spurs."
The admission that there were other big clubs interested is very interesting. My guess would be UTD and perhaps Chelsea.
Unfortunately we would be seeing Modric's considerable talents at the World Cup but it appears we'll be seeing in a spurs shirt for a long time yet.
In an unrelated matter, why does Capello keep picking Walcott?
At least it means he will be fit for the start of next season. Think Fabio must be getting a nosh off lennon :-)
"a whooping 6 years"?
great news.
on your unrelated point: so he can make him cry by dropping him from the final squad!
nosh off lennon? lennons actually a class player...walcotts crap and would need to do such things to get in.....modric ur a ledge
Like to know who those other big clubs were? Chelsea, United I take it?
silly tossface wenger "Modric too small for the Premier League" yeah right u prick
Great news, but quite expected nonetheless. He is a sensible man, and credit to him for making a sporting decision rather than a money one. Spurs will be in the group stages of the CL no doubt and I believe getting in is the hardest part. Any thing can happen once your in ! Walcott is crap, he must have sat beside Heskey in the shit corner on the way over.
Great news regarding Modric, now we just need to persuade Joe Cole to join us ahead of Man UTD and we'll be on to a real winner. On the subject of Walcott,he is in my opinion a class player that has suffered through an injury plagued season, you only have to look at the games against Croatia,Barcelona and suchlike to see what his potential could be.Perhaps he might even need a change of scenery at club level to reignite his career.
Great news he is staying i dont get were will he play with bale outstanding on the the left wing, were bale should stay so will modds play in central midfield, spurs are in the markit for another center mid who could be another big player so who will lose out ( tom or sgt wilson, so thats my problem.
Great news...our wee team...keep them together and get all key players signed up....now add the ones and twos of world class quality and we can achieve big things! What a lovely day...For God SO loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH in Him should NOT perish but HAVE everlasting life :) JOHN 3 V 16 COYS
The puzzling thing is that Capello not only looks like he is taking Walcott but also that he considers him first choice for the right wing.
If that is so then what on earth is that about ?
I doubt even many gooners would choose Walcott ahead of Lennon let alone the rest of us. So I don't see what element of that is a football decision.
Well done Luka. Always good for a club to keep its best players. Lets hope we can bring in a couple more class players too.
I see Walcott as a frustrated striker. I thought the original plan for him was to move him up front when he had settled into the Arsenal team?
Lennon went through the same thing about two years ago and Walcott is younger than Lennon so it's not beyond the realm of possibility that Walcott could improve but the World Cup is weeks away and England have Lennon. It's a no brainer to everyone other than Fabio Capello.
Great news about the Moddle, in truth I didn't see him going anywhere anyway.
As I understand it, Capello keeps picking Walnutt for these friendlies because he's uncertain as to whether the boy should go to the finals. IMHO, based on the last 2 friendlies, Walnutt, Heskey and Ferdinand should not be going...
it's all down to harry?? with harry in charge all these offers for our players will fall on deaf ears unless harry wants to do a deal. we have the nucleus of a fuucking good team and with the tweaking of a few area's we could have something there. Harry is no mug and this is the first job he has had where he will decide who stays and go's and no amount of fergie tapping up will change that! fergie got his just rewards with berba and carrick and that's not value for money.
good news about modric. shows he believes the club is going in the right direction.
as for Walcott....the boy just doesn't produce. thats the biggest issue for Capello. yes he can run but he isn't producing. Lennon has to start
Lennon will start on the right that was confirmed during the last two games. ie moving him to the right and taking walli off!
on a more immportant note tom is to slow, was the new carrick, turning into the new jenas.sorry tom but as townsend and southgate put it (very kindly)today,'not got the mobility against the top teams'
he will be good in 2nd level games and thats fine.
maybe he will get better,my opinion is not gonna happen (as carrick).
On a different subject did anyone else notice the new pitch will be 8 metres from the front row? that seems a very long way, the guff in the planning says its very near! but whats the distance now? and at chelsea and utd etc.
feels like were having a dog track or stock cars.
What is with walcott playing? He has had one or two good games and one excellent game but thats it! Hopefully aaron will be no1 rw for world cup he can ripe defences apart. Great news on modric him in centre with either wils or tomo be great next year add another striker and maybe a defender ? and we be can be contesting top 4 for years to come COYS!
Hey King of Kings. You've got sgt wilson, Major Tom and General Modric.
Who would you pick out of those three?
Modric signing has becalmed my summer!
yep..
big mart dont fall for this to slow shite he has bean great all season . There is a click in the england Squad and Tom and Lennon are suffering from it . Rooney was rubbish Lampard was rubbish Ashley Cole Wallcot if Gerrard finds it difficult to play with Lampost than so can tom he never made one pass or shot of note for one good reason the England Click Rooney Gerrard Lampard Joe cole Carragher Johnson Ferdinand . Dont be fooled by the seconfd half 5 subs playing against a japan side who made none till about 20 mins . Capelow said we where two slow passing who the hell was Hudds going to pass to Rooney was losing the ball Wallcot stood infront of is marker Bent was a drifting lump of wood .Yes Big Tom done nothing but Capelow asked him to play deep don't forget he swapped Lennon to the right he helped Joe Cole look good and Lampard Rooney both had one thing Tom never had tension because they new they where on the plain and yet they where crap along with our defense so dont blame Tom for playing conservative in Capelows Failed experiment for 45 mins of 90 lets see how they perform when he can only bring three subs on sick for Tom Harry must be wishing all isplaers would come home from this stupid exercise in stupidity making players sweat for 23 places on a plane is mental and we would have had a better idea if these players new before the two friendly s this could turn out a big mistake not picking Tom on 45 mins of a failed team line up
Huddlestone isn't good enough for England in my opinion but that isn't going to stop Johnson and Walcott jumping on the plane for SA. I have no idea why Capello picked 30 when he knew damn well who his 23 would be and who he would pick as a replacement for Barry if he was injured.
Capello gave Walcott every opportunity to prove how good he is...and Walcott did just that. He'll still be going though.
I think it's more a case of Capello giving Walcott games so hopefully he'll impress...the rest of the country, at least then Capello can seem justified in his decision to take the runner. For me it would be Azza and SWP for the RW.
Davspurs post 21 an interesting reply!!.
How many world class footballers do england have ?
nobby between 2 and 5
two lescott and baines......... ha
Nobby, none. The closest would be Ashley Cole. If you made a world select eleven then Cole would be the only English player that would have a chance of appearing. We have one or two very good players and the rest are just decent.
CG tend to agree. that is why I like the World Cup.I can be objective.
I do envy those who can wholeheartedly support England, I used to, but supporting England and THFC was ( until recently )just too much.
I'll get behind England because i'm patriotic (i'll watch us play any sport) but I have less faith in England than I do Tottenham and I have very little faith in Tottenham. I think we're a poor team at National level. I'm looking forwrad to the world cup though. I want to watch some great football. I want to watch Spain, Brazil, Holland and Argentina...the downside is I have to also watch England and that is pretty boring.
looks like Theo and Bent can book their own summer holidays now!
I love the fact the BBC consider Walcott a "surprise omission". From a strictly footballing perspective, it's no great surprise.
Goonerless England Now there fans can show there true colours and support the french!!!
England for me are the Aston Villa of World Football. Work very hard but lack imagination. Often very boring to watch.
Ledleys in. Dawson out....
Fatty Thud can head to some all you can eat resort for 4 weeks and watch it on tv
Simon that is hilarious!!! What an idiot you are
what bit of that makes me an idiot?! Dont be scared of facts. He will come back to training weighing more than he did on the last day of the season.... 100% guaranteed.
Capello said England team would be picked on form and those who are playing regularly for their teams. Then he puts either Ferdinand and Terry in ahead of Dawson. Yeah Right.
The world class debate is lacking clarity, it does not in my oppinion
mean you would get in a best eleven, that would exclude many players
who are 'world class' unless you play 20 a side.not many teams have 11 world class players, watch the champs league final!,their are at least 7 players who are decent but not world class.
we need 11-14 players to play well as part of a team, for a few games
we need maybe 3-4 big games to go well(man city away, chelsea, arse,)
and we will be close, and a dollop of luck! ie red cards either way,
pens, great saves etc .
COME ON BOYS.
P.S upson not daws!! carrick!! s.w.phillips!! not adam johnson!! wow.
There is no such thing as a world class player!
Spurs first team were all world class last season !!!!
To me, there is such a thing as world class, it is very subjective though. My opinion is world class is thrown around far too much. I think that to be world class you have to be the best in your position in the world. If a world team was picked you'd be in that world team. Which is why I say only Cole is potentially world class in the England set up.
I'd say the meaning of world class would be.. To play as well for their country as they do for their team. To play consistently well over a number of seasons in one or more of the top leagues/competitions. To make a difference in THE BIG matches when IT matters. Medals do help, but wouldn't say is essential.
I would increase that to maybe the top 5-10 players in each position. Because it s subjective it s hard to narrow down to just the best player in each position. For example, I think Pepe Reina is a world class keeper. However, he may not get into everyone s world 11. If he doesn t it would only be a narrow decision as I see it. On form and fully fit, I would include Rio Ferdinand, Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerard to Ashley Cole as England s world class players. Both Rio and Steven have had very poor seasons this year but for me are top players who consistently make it into UEFA s champions league XI. If I had to pick a world XI, Rio (when fully fit) would be in it. He s a fantastic leader, proven at every level and has every attribute you want in a defender.
I don t England will win the world cup because there are better balanced teams who are probably in better physical shape than England. I said before that England are like the Villa of international football and I wouldn t bet on Villa winning the FA Cup but I wouldn t put it beyond them!
As i said post40, 3 or four top keepers, center halfs, strikers etc pos 25-30 world class players.
leagues are now finished?,who do we need to avoid for the worst case
scenario to be a real possability in the champs draw?, i am hoping for
dundalk!(with all due respect).but will get dynamo tblisi probably.
England have no world class players and nor does the prem league, the closest you would get to a world class player is messi, world class players tag is banded about like a pimps slag!! history decides who is world class and only history.
I would say 'world class' is determined by those players who can impact heavily on a game. stand out in a team. entertain the fans (from both sides). And do that on the worlds stage.
Like a Messi. Like a Kaka. Like a Ronaldo (the old one) used to. Or Ronaldinho used to. ..actually probably young Ronaldo.
Englands players need to be more consistent at international level to be 'world class'.
Yes Rooney, Gerrard, Cole, Rio could all be....but they lack consistency.
If Rooney has a storming WC (and we all hope he does I would say) then will he be 'world class'??? probably yes.
But the following game after the WC he will have a quiet game.
To be 'world class' you need to be producing in every game
It's very simple. A player is world class if he plays in the World Cup.
Arsenal players at the World Cup: 11
Fabregas (Spain), Van Persie (Netherlands), Clichy, Gallas, Sagna, Diaby (France), Vela (Mexico), Eboue (Ivory Coast), Song (Cameroon), Bendtner (Denmark), Senderos (Switzerland)
Tottenham players at the World Cup: 8
King, Lennon, Defoe, Crouch (England), Assou-Ekotto, Bassong (Cameroon), Gomes (Brazil), Palacios (Honduras)
Arsenal have more world class players and they play in better teams as well.
Baron you are probably right.
Any player not at the World Cup is not a 'world class' player.
?????
prawn
baron what crap are you on about now, most pointless statement in a long time, even to your standards. cole to arseholes. baron ye will have 11 midgets on the field the way wenger is going
Yeah Baron do you honestly believe Senderos, bendner eboue are world class??
Playing at the World Cup or not is the only objective touchstone there is. Arsenal have more world class players than Tottenham. Live with it.
Shame the language of choice in the Arsenal dressing room isn't English - you really are a complete D@@khead!!!
"A player is world class if plays at the World cup"....hmmm.
Baron, you truely are a numpty of the very highest order. So consider the following
David Mulligan, currently without a club, attending the World Cup with New Zealand. Ryan Giggs, currently plays for Man Utd, will not be attending the World Cup with Wales.
By your reckoning Baron, Mulligan is better than Giggs because Mulligan is 'World class'...
In fairness Mulligan is very underrated :P
Gallas is no longer contracted to Arsenal and Fabregas wishes he wasn't.
As in every group you have to differentiate within the group of world class players. There are players like Emile Heskey the four Spuds and there are demigods like Henry, Van Persie and Fabregas. Only Spuds don't know and understand this!
You're really clutching at straws now aren't you Baron?
As in every group you have to differentiate within the group, most on this blog know about football...then there is Baron von Wenger.
I would say a world class is a player that every nation wished was qualified to play for them. Rooney, would be one player most international teams wished they had at their disposal. Possibly Lampard, and Gerard. That's about all I'm afraid.
BVW the point centres around the ability of individuals ie world class. AFC let themselves down as a team last season, Wigan etc.
The best thing I read about us last season was that Spurs team added up to more than its individual players. Arsenal on the other hand went the other way IMO. If Fabregas goes Wenger will have to spend serious monies, probably on a few players. Obviously I hope it all goes wrong. The thing that is really missing at the Arse, lubricant.
Just hearing from England camp that Defoe is injured and won't be playing in World Cup! Will be on Sky News shortly.
And Joe Cole going to Arsenal. Tw t.
Just heard about Defoe. Gutted for him.
Defoe wouldn't have played anyway. Sad for him though. Does this mean bent will go now?
Bet those Arsenal fans are praying for Lennon to be injured now so Walcott goes out there. Big shame for Defoe.
Bet those Arsenal fans are praying for Lennon to be injured now so Walcott goes out there. Big shame for Defoe.
Apparently Defoe news is being delayed while they do further medical checks but not looking good. Rio scan news is out.
Defoe isn't injured, its Ferdinand you spanner!
Mate, this is news from inside the camp. Ferdinand is nothing, he'll be fit. It's Defoe's hamstring tear causing problems - apparently he'll be out for 8 weeks.
Browny I suppose you,ve got a friend of a friend who's in the camp... or are you capello!!!
Ha ha, not Capello mate. I know a physio out there as I am one myself. Can't say his name as he probably should be keeping this under his hat.
Just got a text from my mate and Defoe is on his way home for treatment. They're keeping it quiet until Capello decides who's going out but guess it'll be out there soon. Hope he's got a decent TV...
WALCOTT the wan@er will prob get it. like to see bent go. better for spurs that defoe is not in the world cup.
You'd think it'd Darren Bent?
It's got to be Bent, he's shown a lot more form than Walcott this season and strictly speaking, Bent is an out and out striker whereas Walcott is a sprinter.
haven't seen the Defoe news on anything. Has anyone seen anything other than Browny's post??
...I hear Drogba has broken his arm!! ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Apparently Capello is making a statement this evening on Ferdinand and Defoe. Mark my words...
It's ok to announce that the England captian wont be going to the world cup but we better not announce that a bit part striker won't be going. I can see the logic. This rumour has no legs Browny, give it up. The media are all over the England team at the moment, if there was a problem we'd know.
well if they are both out I don't see it as a major issue.
Ledders will replace Rio
Defoe probably wouldn't have played much anyway.
....still don't think Bent is good enough. Would like to be proved wrong but he didn't manage to do that in all his time with us.
he's just not good enough in a good team.
great shout Browny. I can see how your physio pal could mix up defoe and ferdinand.
He should do well with England then mdb!
the only players I'd worry about being injured are Rooney and Gerrard.
And possibly ACole as the backup is Warnock. (personally I'd put Milner or Barry there before Warnock but thats another issue)
You could be right Simon, but remember lads you heard it here first. Come 7pm I'll be a hero or a zero.
SSN running the Defoe story now. Calf injury, at least 8 weeks out.
That'd be a zero then Browny? Although you didn't specify which day at 7pm. Yesterday? Tomorrow? Next week? November?
Also BVW as stated Galls is actually no longer an Arse player, plus you forgot Dawson and Dos Santos.
a very old woman is walking past Anfield with 4 fully loaded Lidl bags. Tom Hicks looks out of his office sees the old lady opens the window and asks ' hey liddle ohl lady can you manage ?' 'Fak off I dont want the job' she replies.
You need a Greek in at Liverpool to sort that sh/te out.
whats in the Harry to Liverpool story???
I can't see it myself. He's got to be happy where he is. And with the squad he has. And with his chairman.
Plus Liverpool is surely too far from Sandbanks!!
Liverpool are a sinking ship, why would Harry leave us when he's just achieved Champions League?
An extra 200 miles to manage a club that's on the market, with no money, in the Europa league and with it's best players rumoured to leave? Yeah, I'm sure he'd jump at the chance.
It is Liverpool though. I don't think he'd go because he would want a crack at the elite comp but Liverpool are still a big draw. If we hadn't just finished 4th i'm sure he would have jumped at the chance.
COME ON YOU MICHAEL DAWSON - he should have been there anyway!!!!
I don't fancy the chances of anyone who takes the Liverpool job. If the rumours have any truth to them, the new managers first task will be to oversee the sale of Gerrard...which is not something that will endear him to the Liverpool fans. Also, if Gerrard does go, Torres aside, Liverpool will suddenly become a very average team.
Mark Hughes is being touted as a Liverpool target. They could do with a been there done it ex pro at Anfield, anything would be an improvement on The Riddler.
I don't think Liverpool should be our main concern. Capello pretty much going to Inter and FA keen to get an Englishman in charge after years of overpaid foreigners. Harry is the only choice.
