Harry admits Cole interest

by Alan the librarian

After weeks of media mind games, Harry has shown is hand in the race for Joe Cole by admiting we have been in contact with his agent.

That said, no progress has been made beyond that as Joe is keen to carry out his international duties at the World Cup prior to sorting out his club duties. If true, good on him. Personally, I think he's already sorted it out with Arsenal but I am cynical when it comes to footballers ability to do the right thing.

Owing to the fact he's a free agent, Cole has become one of the most coveted players of the transfer window so it is perhaps odd when I say he won't come cheap.

He turned down money bags Chelsea's salary package and I would think that would have been around 100K a week, whilst our biggest earner, Ledley King, reportedly 'only' on 70K. It has been suggested that Arsenal have offered him 120K a week and, if so, financially that is beyond us. We could offer him a signing on fee of say 5-8m pounds and then pay him in line with King but I'd question the impact such a jackpot would have on any player's motivation. It'd also take away the incentive of this being a 'free' transfer.

At 29 and with his injury record my estimate would be that Cole would be valued at around 10m if he wasn't free so this is still good business. He's a good player, experienced at the highest level, and he would allow us to revert to a 433 formation in CL games. Managers at the highest level have often doubted his contribution to a team but those have been boring Italians (Capello, Mourinho and Ancelotti). Harry appreciates the value of flair players and so do we. This would be a good deal for all concerned.

However, let's hope he's not THE big signing Harry was talking about as that would leave me a little flat after finally getting into the Champions League.

Whoops Mourinho is Portuguese but you know what I mean, he behaves like an Italian tactically.

Tacticaly Mourinho couldn't be any more Italian so you can be forgiven your error!

Cole would definately have something to offer and could well fit in on our left wing in a 4-4-2, with Modric inside him and Bale at left back (where Harry has often said he will play). Bale on the overlap, Cole cutting in, it could be nice. However I don't believe he'll choose us over the scum if money is his motivation, providing he can brush up on his French he'll probably be wearing red next season.

Harry has the midas touch for us so if his judgment is that Spurs are improved by signing Joe Cole this summer then I hope he succeeds.

Personally I am hoping for a top striker or two.

I think his WAG wife will ensure he gets more than he did at Chavski.

oh know Julio Baptista is being linked to spurs in too many articles for my liking. cannot see where joe cole will play he is a bit over rated. dont think he would be worth the wages.

with you on that one raver, bang the acid.

As much as I like Niko Kranjcar, JC is a better player so would improve the squad and probably the team. I see Bale as a left back in a similar mould to Evra and Cole (eventually), he would bomb past a player like JC and JC would cause problems drifting inside like Modric does so effectively when playing there.

I doubt Cole would be our top summer signing. Harry has identified a forward as out primary target and I believe we're looking a strikers who could, if neccessary, play the lone forward role. Someone strong who can challenge ariely as well as score a few goals...unfortunately there aren't many of these players around, and those that are around are in high demand with big money being offered in terms of price and wages.

That said, this is Harry we're talking about and I'm certain he's not in Africa just topping up his tan...right now he's probably trialing half a dozen kids from Rustenburgs surrounding villages.

His cameos on BBC give quite an insight into how much scouting he does. Almost every player that comes up he says 'yeah we've watched him'. He gets around that Harry!

Alan its also a good shout by harry in case any of the good players hear him
they think 'hang on Spurs are looking at me'. its like turning heads of players you want without actually tapping them up.

he's been round the block our Harry and knows how the play the game.

I think Cole is an intelligent player and Harry could find a lot of uses for him in regular and some unorthodox positions and strategies too. A bit like the way we use Lennon to bring chaos to opposing defences rather than as a straight ahead winger or the way we use Mordic on the left but he plays across the middle. A smart manager like we have can use top players like Cole/Modric/Lennon all over the pitch rather than always in one position.

All this is great news re Cole but he has played very little football. He is the critics favourite unfit player. On his day he is fantastic but there are not enough days when that is evident. Joe Cole or not I dont want to see our highest wage earner, however it is worked out,to be an unproven memory.

Come on England you useless c unts !

14| Alan (87.74.138.246) 2010-06-27 11:43:57

Experience should hopefully count today for England. I am not English but I am well up for this one. I even had a full english breakfast this morning listening to James Corden's 'shout' on full blast. Bring it on you Kuntz!

15| MKYid (90.213.185.1) 2010-06-27 12:19:03

I Fucking hate James Corden...Fucking tubby Wanker.

16| Craig Grant (86.184.76.241) 2010-06-27 14:59:02

I don't hate him but I am bored of him now. James Boredom. Come on Engalnd !!

17| nobby nobbs (82.0.227.193) 2010-06-27 16:44:05

18| MKYid (90.213.185.1) 2010-06-27 16:52:15

Alright, hate is a bit strong. But he's a loathesome idiot and I'm tired of seeing him on TV...especially sports programmes!!

19| Craig Grant (86.184.76.241) 2010-06-27 16:59:59

Smithys great but Corden isn't. Cordens funny when it's written for him.

I'm over that England rubbish now. It hurt for 5 minutes. It's not like Spurs losing. Now then, what have we to look forward to? Oh yes, Champions League football !! COYS !!!

20| MKYid (90.213.185.1) 2010-06-27 17:04:03

It was only a matter of playing a team that was half decent. England were Shit and have been all tournament. I feel for Crouch, he may have only scored against 'minnows' but he scores goals, which is more than can be said for Fucking Heskey!!

21| Craig Grant (86.184.76.241) 2010-06-27 17:11:05

It was just same old same old. One day the FA will have the boll0cks to choose a manager who also has the boll0cks to drop players for the sake of building a team. Lampard and Gerrard are both central midfielders but don't play well together. Drop one. Don't shoe horn one in to another position. Rooney - plays shit for the last 5 or 6 games. Drop him !!

22| Alan (87.74.138.246) 2010-06-27 17:14:24

I think he writes the stuff on Gavin and Stacey (along with the fat one on there) but I know what you mean as I have watched the show he does on ITV a couple of times and it's repetitive stuff. He's not quick witted. He also licks the players arses in interviews, which leave sme embarrassed for him.

I just hope England keep away from Harry. I've been worried about this for ages. He's the opposite of Capello (thank god!) and it's typical England to campaign for reverse of what was there before. We need Harry to be found guilty of tax evasion! Come on taxman!!

23| Alan (87.74.138.246) 2010-06-27 17:22:40

The only time when England looked any good was when Gerrard and Rooney were close together near the opposition pen area. There seemed to be the makings of a partnership there but Capello never tried it. England were overrun in midfield and lacked place in defence. Not long ago the germans were seen as this ageing side who lacked ideas and more from luck than judgement were to go for youth and hopefully this will happen to England. Lampard is 32 and Gerrard is 30 so that's probably the last of them in terms of WCs.

24| Craig Grant (86.184.76.241) 2010-06-27 17:25:46

Youth and foreigners.

25| Alan (87.74.138.246) 2010-06-27 17:38:25

This morning it was "shout, let it all out", now it's 'shit, England are out, this is a team we can do without'.....

26| Craig Grant (86.184.76.241) 2010-06-27 17:46:22

Get your coat Alan.

27| Alan (87.74.138.246) 2010-06-27 17:55:48

I must admit I've been waiting to use that one for a while!

28| nobby nobbs (82.0.227.193) 2010-06-27 19:02:09

Tears for Fears seems England up.
