I am really looking forward to the Bolton game tomorrow night. Why wouldn't I? Our team are back in 4th following a very sound result at Wigan, whilst Bolton were battered at Blackburn, and Harry has indicated he plans to freshen up the attack.
I have nothing against first choice pair Crouch and Defoe. Crouch's selfless play brings out the best in goal hungry Defoe as his goal record alongside him has shown. He's Heskey to our Rooney. However, both players have flaws and maybe because I have seen them across the entire season, I am growing a little weary of their very evident shortcomings. One can't score, the other 'only' offers goals to the game.
Of course the fact that Roman Pavlyuchenko has given me reason to look up the spelling of his name again is very exciting. Personally, I had little sympathy for the Russian's (former) plight at our club. Us spurs fans have always had a soft spot for skilful players but in reality, largely because of this thirst for sexy football and our fashionable London location, we are a breading ground for underachievers. I realise I'm in the minority when siding with Harry but comments from Pav acknowledging a greater attitude in training last week should give an indication as to why Harry has previous really frozen him out. I believe Roman is greater influenced by the stick than the carrot and I have faith that Harry (who got the best out of Di Canio and covets Bellamy) is the man to beat him, and Bentley, with it.
Anyways, hopefully he'll play alongside Gudjohnsen who I see as Crouch's eventual successor. He's got the physical presence but also the technical ability and if he can recapture the form he had at Chelsea we have a very good link man on our hands.
Tomorrow is, against a weakened and out of form Bolton, an ideal opportunity to experiment a little. Although no Jenas please. With King injured and Kaboul cup-tied, Bassong will partner Dawson. Modric is likely to takeover from Kranjcar who did the dirty work for Luka to shine on Sunday.
The pitch did take a lot out of our players but my hope is that Harry goes with a strong team, looks to win the game, then make changes. He tried the reverse at Molineaux and ended up feeding us to the Wolves.
Lennon's delayed absence is a massive blow but I don't think it will influence the outcome of this game. Spurs through comfortably to the next round, I hope.
I did read somewhere that Harry doesn't bother too much with players who don't speak English..I'm sure that hasn't helped Pav's cause should it be true.
All that aside, I expect confidence high and a good win...COYS!!
'our fashionable London location'
Only an estate agent could dress Tottenham up as that.
I see Gudjohnsen as a replacement for the loss of Keano's experience. Don't get me wrong I think life was becoming somewhat untenable for Robbie at WHL. He had split the fans this season and people questioned Harry's authority because of it. There were more negatives than positives to be had from Robbie. Gudjohnsen gives us a wise head in the changing room at the very least but cannot be looked at as a long term replacement for anyone. There is something about Pav that reminds me of Teddy but his commitment seems a problem... I like him and want to see him and Defoe a bit more. Defoe seems to like Pav when I watch his body language after games (when Pav does make an appearance). Lightweight would probably be the problem here though. Harry seems to want everyone to track back and I understand that, not sure if Pav is up for that job. Seems like a lazy striker with a cool head. Thought they (Pav and Defoe) looked like forming a good understanding at some point last season only for Defoe to get injured. If Crouch sticks his tongue out one more time after fluffing a passage of play I will... I will, I don't know but he jars me sometimes, he really does. I fancy us to smash Bolton tomorrow.
..and the second paragraph is a good exercise in contradiction.
Push and Run The Defoe Crouch combo relay heavily on Lennon buzzing around where PAV just kneads a sniff of the 8ft by 8ft post to point to is name and point to our Cockerel. We have the Octopus in goal and the way Pav wrapped his leg round is second goal the elastic man upfront. The one thing we should not do my good friend is dont call any of our players because Jenas will play a role for Spurs if all the players remain confident trust me i have bean right about early Lennon Huddlestone Pav Bentley and sadly Dosantos Bale and Keane will be back cartwheeling for us .These players will if Harry shows faith play there part .Kaboul place midfield if Palacios gets suspended Jenas right back cover Gudjohson just behind strikers Bostock with Huddlestone tomorrow Rose sub last 15 mina (walker sub to come on last 15 mins in the Everton game he has long throw and fast)
Also, I think, we need to be a bit more understanding of how Lennon's absence has affected the team shape and play. That is why Modric is finding harder to get back into his stride. Marking Lennon on his own is possible. Marking Modric on his own is possible. Marking the pair in the same side drags the opposing team all over the shop. Love the way Bale is playing of late... If we can get disco feet back (Lennon) with Modric and Bale then there is no reason we can't do something for the April fixtures when we find out if top 4 is just a dream or reality.
I can see Wembley I can see white shirts and blue shorts on the grass I can see Harry smiling. No, no I m sorry I m getting carried away
COYS!
Bazmundo is exactly right - Luka and Aaron together are devastating - they did a number on Manure in the CC final that we lost on penalty kicks. Can't wait for them to be back together with Pav and Defoe up front . An unstoppable attack, IMO.
My guess is that HR will play Crouch and Pav because he needs the height to counter Davies strength. Anyway, will be glad to see Pav playing.
they did a number on Manure in the CC final that we lost on penalty kicks
We drew 0-0 against a weak Utd side.
I don't understand the high expectency for Gudjohnsson, though I hope I am proved wrong. He has been unable to be 1st choice for a mid table team in a weak French league!
Glad to see that it only took Redknapp 18 mths., dropped points and a CC Cup Final defeat to realise the need to practice penalties!!!
penalties are part of the game there is no excuse for not practicing.
Lets get this straight THFC paid 13.8 million for a player who is so stroppy uncommitted and unwilling to learn English that he is worth er... 13.8 million. In the meantime redknapp bought Crouch a half decent striker for 9 million and he plays all the time despite creating few chances and scoring few goals.
The fans particularly those who attend matches see something in Pavleychenko which they dont see in Crouch , ability. Because of this they sing his name, and despite being labelled as morons by many on here it would appear the fans were right at this moment. That leaves one question ...Where is the moron/ are the morons? Does it take committment extra effort to work with a foreign player, has the player slapped in a transfer request ? Where are the morons ?
It's probably just an English thing. Give it to any from Pav, Luka, Niko or Baaay-el.
I think it's genetically just a Tottenham thing.
We expect/demand attractive football and gifted players.
But we let that slide sometimes if a players puts in graft and effort.
Its very rare we get both.
Ginola - class. But not exactly gonna bust a gut to get back and help out in defence.
Freund - couldn't kick up a fuss. But ran round like a headless chicken and always tried (although ultimately failed) his best. And he has a big place in the heart of many Spurs fans. Not legend material but remembered fondly.
That's not a contradiction really YA. We demand grit, work, graft and effort from our defensive players and attractive, creative football from our attackers.
Can't agree that Utd had a weak side against us at Wembley.
Ok, weakend then. It certainly wasn't full strength
Alot of people over at vital been worried about bassong playing tonight, why?????
He has looked sooo solid, Dawson has made more mistakes than him, like the missed header at Anfield
Bassong and Dawson are a great partnership, that was the partnership when we broke the club record for consecutive clean sheets this season.
Am i missing something what does Bassong do wrong?
Nobby, I don't think anyone doubted Pav has ability. He is widely regarded as the most talented striker at our club but it's all about applying that talent. Pav himself said he worked harder than ever before in training this week and subsquently he got his reward and he took it. That's the way it should be. Impress the manager in training, play and reap the rewards of those efforts. That's the culture I want at the club. Not one where talented players can avoid training properly during the week and then they expect to turn it on during the game. That's a manager having favourites. Exceptions to not working hard in training should only be given to those carrying injury not those who can't speak English. Palacios seems fine with Harry.
Problem is, Alan, it's difficult to believe anything Harry says. Bale didn't get a chance till Harry was forced to put him in, same with Bentley, and both have done well. Harry admits himself that he didn't want to play Bentley but was forced to....and lets be honest, if BAE didn't come back from the ACN injured Bale wouldn't be playing now. Has Pav really done anything to prevent himself from playing or has Harry been using it as an excuse to play his favourites? Who knows....but, it's pretty easy to tell when Harrys lying, his mouth moves !
Jay, I agree with you, Bassong has impressed me. I expect a few mistakes because he's young and I expect a few more now because he keeps being dropped and so has possibly lost a bit of confidence. In my opinion King is the best defender in the country when he's fully fit but central defence isn't about individuals, it's about partnerships and that is what we need to build. Unfortunately, for me, King doesn't fit in to that.
Maybe thats why wilsons been of form of late having seen harry's dated tactics and man management?? Big Ron!! Pav to start and our fourth striker to get a hatrick.
"Problem is, Alan, it's difficult to believe anything Harry says"
I agree that is the real issue. Ultimately, I believe Harry because of what i see on the pitch. In the large majority of the games we have looked organised and worked hard. If they didn't like Harry or didn't understand him we would be in disarray (like under Ramos). I agree that Bentley and Bale would not be playing if Lennon and BAE remained injury-free but not many fans wanted to be playing. We weren't unhappy with Lennon and BAE. Their place in the side was merited. Surely it's a good thing that players who come in do just as well or even better than. It shows they don't hold it against the manager for being benched. If they wanted Harry out they would disappoint him when he called on them.
Man Utd s starting line up for the Carling Cup final last year:
Foster, O Shea, Evans (Vidic 76), Ferdinand, Evra, Ronaldo, Scholes, Gibson, Nani, Tevez, Welbeck (Anderson 56).
In terms of a weakened side I m not sure that is as simplistic as it sounds. Foster, if I recall correctly, got the plaudits that day. He made a world class save from Lennon which was the reason it went to penalties. He then done a Tony Parks in the shoot out.
Rooney was ruled out with a virus not rested. Berbatov was missing but he wasn t setting the world alight at that particular time and I believe it was psychology from Fergie that prompted that decision kick up the butt kinda thing.
So that leaves Evans, Gibson and Welbeck as the weak players Gibson didn t look too bad when we met him again this season. Evans looks like he has a future and Welbeck would be a quality player for many a Premier club.
Meanwhile Spurs, fighting relegation, had Woodgate, Palacios, Keano and Defoe ruled out.
If it wasn t for Foster s heroics Lennon would have been man of the match. We know what Modric can do and with Bale hitting form, get all three in the first 11 and my argument still stands.
My team and formation against Bolton tonight...
4-5-1
Gomes
Charlie Daws Bassong BAE
Kranjcar Gudjohnsen Palacious Modric Bale
Pav
Bassong is a player in progress... yes he is looking like an astute buy. Before digging Harry out on him, remember, it was Harry who bought him. (Think of Jonny Evans at Man Utd. When he gets dropped to make way for Ferdinand and Vidic do observers claim favouritism from Ferguson or do they think Fergie is choosing experience over promise)
BAE was playing superb football from the moment he banged that goal in against Liverpool. Simple as that. Bale has come in and played fantastically well, giving the team an extra dimension on the left wing. I doubt he will be dropped on current form.
Harry has done wonders with a team that was in a relegation battle last year. I think he has bought well. The fans were accusing him of favouritism to Keano and Keano didn t make the season.
Harry wants all players to track back and tackle I m not sure Pav has that in him. Chelsea and Man Utd play a similar game. (thus the reason Berbatov struggles at Utd and people like Shevchenko and Crespo failed to make a impact at Chelsea) We have to respect the manager s view. I like the idea of a lazy maverick striker or winger, but lets be honest we have had enough of them over the years at WHL and have never really challenged at the top level.
Come on Pav, you have the talent just keep the fire in your belly burning and fight for every ball.
I would never sell King, we need to move forward without him being a relied on week in week out, but you can t buy his talent or experience without being an established top 4 side. Players understand that teams are made from a minimum of 22 players and Bassong is no fool, he is moving forward under Harry and that my friends is a fact. (that s not staying he won t mess up, the bigger the game the wiser the head you need obviously dependent on fitness levels)
Just a reminder guys if you not going tonight (like me) you can watch the game live on the net

Would there be any merit in playing Kaboul in midfield with the specific task of nullifying Davies. Take him out and we should keep a clean sheet.
If I was Kaboul and Bassong I would be rubbing my hands being at spurs. They are two young defenders who in all likelihood would not be regulars in any of the top 4 sides or perhaps even top 6. At spurs they can get regular game time. Learning alongside one of the best in world football safe in the knowledge that he and Woodgate alongside him are nearing retirement. It depends if they are realistic about their talents. They are not the finished article and in fairness they should know King is better than them (at the moment). They could play in low ranking Prem side like O'Hara or they could learn their trade in a side with aspirations beyond just staying in league every year.
Kaboul is cup tied unfortunately. I understand where you are coming from on this but seeing as we are the home side tonight I wouldn't really agree with playing with a extra defender. Are there any injury problems with Palacios and Huddlestone? They will do fine in my eyes. If we are worried about injuries before Saturday than dare I say it... Jenas will have to suffice.
Perry Man, what Davies likes to do is pull against the opposition left back. I don't know if having Kaboul being dragged the pitch would do us any favours in terms of shape. I think our best form of defence is attack. Against Wolves and Stoke, Harry played big lads but all it did was encourage them forward. We will go into the game in much higher confidence than Bolton. We have a striker very eager to impress, the crowd will be up, let's take advantage of that by going for their throats!
I completely agree with Alan with regards to Bassong and Kaboul.
I would suggest that Bassong and Kaboul are not stupid. They knew before they signed where they sat in order of preference if everyione is fit. i.e. behind, King, Woody Daws.
But they will also know that 2 of those above are unlikely to play much. so really they are fighting each other play alongside Daws.
And IMO that is Bassong. Kaboul is cover
Personally, after watching Bassong this season I feel he has alot of improving to do. For 8m rising to 12m I expected better. I think Kaboul has loads of potential which makes him closer to a Ledley type of CB, pace, strong and good in the air.
Still puzzled why supporters think that Gudjohnsson will do well for us. He cannot cannot break into the 1st team of a mid-table club in a weak French league! The club would have been better keeping Keano.
The good thing about Kaboul is he is versatile... CB and at a push RB and DefMid. Treat it like Tottenham's got talent... One may get voted out but at the end of day we've got two CB's with bags of potential, covering for two injury prone experts. (Woody and King) Dawson is a good old fashioned English Centre Half, plays with spirit and his heart on his sleeve in every game. I Love his commitment to the cause. He can be our continuity guy.
(Kaboul played as a right back quite a few times for Pompey while there and played well in that role for them)
Even though it sounds like we have too many players for the centreback role, if we get an injury tonight Corluka or Huddlestone will have to play as CB s.
Good job Harry bought in Kaboul if you ask me. Hutton can play regular (hopefully) at Sunderland before we decide whether he has what it takes, Corluka can stay at right back (in the league) and between Walker and Kaboul we should have enough cover as long as there is no long term injury to Charlie boy.
Meanwhile let the battle commence to cement long term replacements for King and Woody I m talking in about 2-3 years, as long as King and Woody can make at least 15 games a season.
Bazmundo...You cannot keep changing the CB partnership during the season. The continuity is important if you want to be a top team. A prtner for Daws needs to be decided upon and worked on ready for next season.
Woody should be sold and King used only as a reserve. Shame about King but facts are facts.
as good as Daws is....and he has played well this season....he's still a bt of a 'John Terry last ditch tackle' man. looks good but just means he was 5 yards out of position to start with.
against the good sides you get found out.
which King rarely does. And why he is soo important. Woody is the next best. and we know he is as injury prone as our King.
replacing them finally will be a tough job.
Keano had spilt the fans... bringing in the experience of Gudjohsen seems a logical solution. Both players wouldn't make a top 4 side, but you would be surprised how claiming a bit of experience in the changing is.
Did anyone know it was Gudjohnsen's dad that saw his penalty saved by Tony Parks when we won the UEFA cup in 84?
Yiddio, I am hoping Gudjohnsen can rekindle his chelsea form or even the form he showed coming off the bench, playing midfield for Barca. He's only 31 and his style is very much in the mould of Sheringham so age is not as much a factor anyway. He had a poor spell at Monaco but he didn't rest on his laurels. He left a very cosy position there to come back to the prem so we can take encouragement from that. Bearing in mind his CV, he cost nothing, on reduced wages and rejected west ham, he's off to a good start!
...and Sheringham is still playing well. if reports are to be believed about that bird from The Saturdays!
Baz...Gudjohnsson may have experience but does he still have the ability to deliver in the EPL.
I don't care about splitting the supporters, Keano was liked in the changing room, was a leader and even off form the chances are that he will perform better than someone who could not make the Monaco first team.
What a life that guy has lived. Forever a player. He's had more birds then I have had chicken dinners. Do you see what I did there...Player, birds/chicken? Come on that's gold!
Keane's not exactly setting the SPL alight at the moment and that league is nowhere near as good as the French one. I'm glad he's gone to another of his boyhood clubs.
Alan...the problem with Gudjohnsson is that he is not match fit, out of form and we only have 12 games to go!! Transfers in January need to be able to make an instant impact, not wait until a few games from the end of the season. Eidur is too many 'ifs'. Hopefully he will prove me wrong, but I think there was some bad decisions made in January concerning transfers. We are on the finakl stretch and we let an experienced full back leave in Hutton and bring in a youngster. This should have been done either at the beginning or end of the season, not now.
Yeah but Hutton is shit.
mkyid...true defensively, but the probability is that he will still be better than a CB playing out of position or an inexpereinced RB
Keano has gone... Gudjohnsen has yet to play and we have Defoe banging them with Pav and Crouch looking to partner him... you seem harsh on Gudjohsen. Seems a solid purchase for a free transfer. Maybe your hurting over Keano and it is blurring you vision. Hee, hee I'm off to pick the boy up from school then off to the game.
Spurs are on their way to wembley...
Baz...could also be that you are not looking at all the facts...but lets hope he proves me wrong
Gudjohnsen has been training well according to Harry and scored a couple on his debut for the reserves, Gudjohnsen brings experince from Chelsea and Barca. Klinsmann was very poor at inter then came to us Davids was the same. Gudjohnsen for me allows us more options in terms of formation. Perhaps he didn t get game time in France because of the language barrier (PAV) the loss is our gain hopefully. Keane before he left was poor he wanted to go to Celtic he didn t want to stay as Harry put it I didn t want to stand in his way Eidur on the other hand came to us when he was all but signed for Wet Spam saying that as soon as he heard we wanted him there was no choice.
What im trying to say Yiddo1882 is Gudjohnsen wants to play for us whatever his motives may be he chose to come here, Keane wanted to go to Celtic another one of his boyhood clubs, Harry saved Keane from Liverpool look how he was repaid.
Davids was poor in his time at Spurs, Klinnsman joined us from Monaco after scoring 29 goals in 65 matches...and it does not matter what Keano wants, the decision should be made upon what was right for THFC.
Training well does not mean match fit and 2 goals against Dagenham and Redbridge hardly means outstanding form
Anyway lets hope I am wrong.
Gudjohnsen will do fine. I'd rather we had a garden gnome playing up front than Keane.
Well he won't get match fit sitting on the bench. Give him a go and lets see what we've got, it won't cost us the game to try and if he plays well we've suddenly got another quality player on our hands.
I agree with Yiddo that our transfer dealings this jan were not great as I think Harry wanted cover for Palacios and Gomes first and foremost and managed neither. In terms of the strikers I look at it and that's one area of the pitch I am most happy. We have a good mix of experienced strikers. My feeling is that when Robbie not playing he becomes a bit of negative in the dressing room because he's a moany bastard. So he would have someone cursing him in Russian and the other in a Irish accent. He decided he would put up with the Russian as no one understand a damn thing he was saying anyway.
Klinsman came from Samp the second time not inter on loan like Eidur my bad. However IMO it does matter what Keano wants because you could see it in his performances he didn t want to play for us and letting a player go that wants to go is doing the right thing for THFC. Im not Gudjohnsen s biggest fan and like you I was dissapointed with our Jan signings but this is our squad. Crouch is poor he makes the rest of the team poor becasue the just launch balls to him which leaves you Pav and Defoe with Eidur giving us another option. Davids gave us experince and IMO was the main reason Carrick was worth 25 Mil. Zok was suppose to come in and do for Carrick what Davids did but Carrick wanted to go.
Talking about strikers does anyone remember when we came close to signing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer? We agreed a 5.5m fee with UTD only for him to reject a move after watching us get beat 0-3 to Sheff Weds at home. Don't know why I thought of that but what a bad time that was to be a spurs fan!
We also refused to pay the other 2m for Eto (making it a total of 3.5m)in 2002!! Remember we lost Platini in '85 due to the Heysel stadium disaster, he felt he could not sign for an English club.
Comfortable enough at half time without being too threatening.
Also some shockingly woeful passing from us at times is giving them chances they shouldn't get.
And Harry wtf is the idea of BAE at RB?
Great to see Pav looking happy with everything. Looks a different guy.
COYS
comfortable win.
we looked a little sloppy in the centre when Palacios went off. Modric lost the ball in key areas without Palacios on the pitch.
overall though we had won the game before Bolton started playing.
glad for Pav. 2 goals in each of last 2 games. will he start next game???
BAE all left foot, Rose all left foot. Where do you put them?
Both down the right. Genius. Its a simple game. Round pegs in round holes.
Is Gudjohnsen a paler Defoe? Look along the line. How many times can you be offside in 1 half? Thought Luka had off night.
Besides those small gripes, job done. Well done lads. COYS
I think we benefitted from no Davies. He's a real plus in ther team. without him they were nothing. Only when Riga came on did they show they actually wanted to try and score.
having said that e pushed the ball around really well in the first hour.
lets take it to Fulham.
COYS!
well played spurs -set up nicley for everton game.
have you noticed that this year has a one in it?
and yes i know so do the next ten .
coys
Good result tonight. I thought Eidur looked class. Silky touches, calm and collected. Took his offside goal well. Delighted for Pav. Another clean sheet for Daws and Bassong. Bring on the Toffees.
Just one question. How did we go from having half a dozen right backs to having none.

So good I said it twice. I noticed Gudjohnsen offside a lot Yidden but I put it down to rustiness.
A case of job done but not a good performance. Bolton had some clear cut chances and when Palicious went off the midfiled became non-existant (which makes it more of a puzzle why Redknapp let O'Hara return to Pompey and let him become cup tied!).
Gudjohnsson took his offside goal well but other than that I thought he had a very quiet game. Hopefully his form will return soon.
The lack of quality in the passing shows why we play the long ball to Crouch! The RB situation is very strange and if someone can explain the logic please do!
I also didn't understand the playing of King against Wigan. Harry knew he would not be fit for the Bolton match and that Kaboul is cup tied, so it left only Daws abd Bassong available...a risky strategy.
If we play as open against Everton on Sunday then we are in for a tough game.
Certainly the next couple of weeks are important. we could still be in the cup and chasing for fourth or out of the running for both!
Agree Yiddo, Great result but Bolton created some clear cut chances, which seemed to be caused through our defence being hesitant. The longer bassong and dawson play together the better they will get, i hope.
Thought Gudjohnson showed promise good link up play.Fulham away Ding Dong should be a cracker !
I don't think we can take much from the game given that we were the only team wanting to win it. Bolton had more than one eye on the league game at the weekend and were so desperate to head off home, they knocked in two goals for us.
Redknapp may have turned the corner says Pavleychenko.
you're right Alan...I think if Thudd had scored the penalty in the first match he would have done a favour to both managers!!
I think Bolton and City are good examples of why you shouldn't change your managers during a season.
Both tactically far superior to the managers they replaced but they are struggling to impose their metholodogies on their players. You can tell the players at both clubs don't understand them. You don't really get time to practice as you go in the prem.
someone should tell daws to give the ball to midfield players and forget about trying to pass it himself. bolton were poor i would even say awful, as alan said they did not want to win that game they are more interested in staying in the prem and rightly so. and the hudd is one lazy bastar@. he seems to have pace when he is attacking but walks back when it comes to defending
Easy win. Perhaps to easy. At times the way the cut through us was embarresing, as was some of the passing. Play like that against the goons and they'll slaughter us.Tough game against Everton, we will need to defend well in all areas of the pitch, maybe BAE, should play on the left with Bale ahead of him. Kranky on the right? As I thought Bently was poor last night. He can't afford to play like that on Sun.
All very negative this morning boys. It wasn't the best performance ever but we are through to the last 8 having beaten a premiership team 4-0. The whole midfield were poor I'll grant you, even my hero's Modric and Palacious were a shadow of their former selves. Lets look at the positives: Pav. Clean Sheet. Bale's left foot. Gomes. Dawson gave 3 passes when he could have hoofed it upfield. Quarter final of FA Cup. COYS
The fact that we didn't have to over exert ourselves was another plus as everton are in for a real tough test in lisbon I feel. Palacios was rested for 30 minutes and that was a real bonus. We can't afford to lose him.
Shame Walker is cup-tied, I would like to have seen a right footer doing what BAE was trying to do. Pleased with Gudjohnsen, he totaly prevented any long balls! We didn't look to strong in the middle when Palacios went off which is a worry as Palacios wasn't playing too well, we really need some decent cover for him because every game from now on is really important and if Palacios isn't playing well we've no-one to replace his tough tackling. On the positives, Pav took his goals well, very composed. No Crouch. Gomes still impressive. No Crouch. Bale causes massive problems for defenders, loving that. And best of all, no Crouch! The only thing we lacked was an attacking threat on the right (though Rose looked good, being a leftie he seemed to struggle with his delivery) I can't wait for Lennon to get back in the side!
Another positive I thought was BAE defensively. He wouldn't have been comfortable on the right but his positioning and tackling was spot on. We have two left backs of real qaulity. If they merged into one person they would look like black elf but what a player!
So then Pav and Defoe to start at weekend? Does anyone know if King will be back. Plus with all the fuss about england Dawson deserves a call up dont you think?
Thank fuuuuuck for pav! our season might well have just been saved, im feeling posative about the everton game now. All that lad needed was a chance and he is taking it! Everton turned their season round on that game at goodison and that wouldnt have happend if crouch had scored? so hopefully with defoe and pav sharing the goals everton wont be able to play their boring tacticks.
Everton look alot less boring with so many players back.Tough tough game.
agree nobbs it is a tough one.
Everton are on the up. They will be looking atb this as a chance to claw back more points towards the european places.
We must push the ball around like we did in the first half yesterday. And make sure we take our chances.
IMO we should play Kranjcar in the middle. We need to start scoring from the centre to push the oppostion midfield back.
It just looks like that isn't the case unfortunatley with Thudd in there.
Harry has already said that he can't see Pav not starting against Everton. The interesting thing will be how Defoe and Pav will partner from now on. I have my doubts as I think they are very similar. Away from home having the two of them might be a little too open but he has to try it as they are both in red hot form. Watching Modric yesterday really highlights how disabled the rest of the team are in terms of movement. The guy is everywhere!
My team and formation against Everton...

Sorry I had to laugh at this
"It seems that officials are struggling to keep up with his pace," said the (celtic) source.
"Several key offside decisions have gone against him purely because of his speed."
Would you believe they are actually referring to Robbie Keane!
must be the speed of his pointing!
I thought we were poor in the first half yesterday. I think when Eidur came on for Defoe at gave us a better dimension and we started playing the ball around comfortably. When Kranj came on for Palacious it looked like Modric was playing just infront of the back four and we lost our way a bit again. Everton will be a totally different ball game altogether. Eidur had some nice touches though and a couple of the offsides were questionable nice finish too. Some of the football we played in the second half was sublime but if we start the Everton game the same way we started yesterday id be a little worried.
Probably mdb! I mean he's no Huddlestone but they make it out like he's Henry. I haven't watched an SPL game in a long time but the standard must be really poor if they consider Robbie quick. I very much doubt he'll be at spurs next season. He'll be 30 and used to sub-standard football. Even Levy will struggle to sell him.
I would imagine at this point Keane will come back in for Gudjohnsen.
But I wouldn't even try and second guess Harry/Levy anymore.
