The FA Cup Semi-Final draw was taken today as old boys David Ginola and Jason Cundy gave spurs the perfect impetus to beat Fulham in QF replay on Wednesday week, drawing us against PL bottom side Portsmouth.
Aston Villa Vs Chelsea
Tottenham/Fulham Vs Portsmouth
The supersitious few would prefer not to discuss the next round until progression is garantueed but if we do go through Harry will be up against former side Pompey (if they are not wound up by then) and sadly for Jamie O'Hara, he'll be denied an appearance at Wembley.
Who will you be supporting come April Jamie?
Knew we'd get Pompey!
Alan, I didn't mention it in the last thread but seeing as you've done it again...it's spelt 'guaranteed'. :)
Cheers pal :)
If Portsmuth beat us O'Hara will get to play in the final at Wembley. Of course we'll be strong favourites. The rest of the country may hope they win.
Feel sorry for J O'H. He's a Spurs supporter and player who'll be praying for a Fulham win. The irony is that he's been instrumental in Portsmouth's recent good form and how we could do with him in our squad right now - but If we do beat Fulham, Jamie won't play at Wembley for either team. Unlucky or what?
Both Fulham and Spurs players will be rubbing there hands together with that one. But if we do get there I don't think Portsmouth will be easy. Lets face it they are all but gone in the Premiership and only have the cup to play for and will fight tooth and nail for everything. Still think the mighty Spurs will do it. Hope we get Villa if we do get past Fulham and Pompey but a hell of a lot of football to be played yet. And to Pompey fans reading hope you lot can sort it out don't want to see you go under.
If we can beat Fulham I'm confident we'll beat Pompey....but only because their best player (hopefully) can't play against us!!
Beating Fulham is a bigger IF than perhaps given credit for by some. On top of them being an organised side, I am worried our injuries will only get worse before now and the replay. We've got two bruising games against Blackburn and Stoke before that game. I can't see any of the players returning ahead of the game so Harry may be forced to play Bale LW and Mod CM which, in my opinion, makes us a little easier to defend against.
I would imagine that along with us...Villa Chavski both wanted to play Pompey.
I would also think Pompey wanted to play us. to try and knock Harry out.
lets hope Fulham have their attention still on the european game. i.e. they don't get hammered in the first game!
as Alan says we could be struggling for players by then.
BUT....we are still in the cup. And that means a lot.
add to that we are still in the running for 4th in the leaguse
COYS!!
league
Did you see Ginola giving a sneaky look into the drum before he picked out the chavs to play villa. A true spurs legend.
mdb I dunno mate we might finish Top in the Leaguse !
Is it 24th the replay is scheduled for?
Also if we get through that it'll mean the Arse game will be moved and we already have to play Citeh from last weekend (any date on that yet?) which could lead to a rather congested March or April.
The joys of being still in with a shout at the end of the season :-)
I could get used to this.
If only we had some players back.
Some but not Jenas.
Wonder if we get to the final will Dave come out of retirement and give Chas a call for a novelty single?
I can't see Dave playing again any time soon but I'm sure some DJ would be happy to remix one of their classics.
If we get through to the final and play Chelsea, would we be guaranteed (see what I did there MK :) ) a place in the Europa League?
Think positive Alan. We finish 4th AND win cup thereby donating our place to the 5th placed league team :-)
I think the Europa cup place goes to the losing finalist, yes.
Have any of you seen this thread on the Millwall site? I actually cried with laughter....
http://www.hof.org.uk/showthread.php?t 2403 page
Add to that planning permission being granted on the new WHL and your looking at dreamland for me!
Poor bloke, it could happen to anybody...can't it? :)
I think that rule changed a few years ago. The loser in cup final does not qualify. It goes to the league position. That's how it can go down to 7th place. We'll be fourth anyway. COYS
I dunno Alan...I would have thought most season ticket holders, midway through the season, would know how to get their seat!
You could be right actually Perry Man, but I'm with Yidden, 4th AND the cup.
Unrelated issue, but did anyone see Walcott's reaction to being (fairly) tackled on Saturday? How arrogant can you get!
Alan, you can't expect anything else with a Wenger team. Your not allowed to tackle them and if you do thats the reaction you get!!!
Following the FA Cup semi-final draw, O Hara said: "It is a weird one because for the first time in my life I will be hoping Spurs lose. I have always supported them but I ve got to be selfish and honest - I want Fulham to go through. I want to play at Wembley. I ll be gutted to miss out. I have grown up as a Spurs fan and watched them all my life so I do not know how that is going to go down."
O Hara added: "I'll be absolutely gutted if I can't play in the semi-final. People keep talking about my Wembley jinx, after my two Carling Cup final disappointments with Spurs in the last two years. I haven't had too many good times there but, hopefully, I can go there in a Pompey shirt and have a much better day out. I've worked really hard to get this opportunity to go back to Wembley and I really do want to be involved in the semi-final."
The on-loan Pompey midfielder continued: "If it is Tottenham in the semi, I'll still be there as a fan - cheering on Portsmouth and hoping they can get through to the final. I'm still a Tottenham player and usually I want them to do well. But for as long as I'm on loan at Pompey, they are the team I want to win."
I'm surprised nobodys got stuck in to this yet. Calls himself a Spurs fan. He's no Spurs fan. I hope he never comes back and I hope he never gets the chance to play at Wembley again.
He's a professional footballer Craig. He wants to play at Wembley. If porstmouth get there he goes. He has actually gone up in my estimation. I get tired of all those banal interviews where players give the "right" answers. He speaks as he plays the game. With his heart on his sleeve. Fair play to him.
When will people (alright Jamie O'Hara) learn that in some cases it is better to keep your mouth shut - Deep down he knows that he isn't good enough to play first team football for the mighty Spurs!!!! have fun next season at a Sunderland/Wigan type team Jamie - SPURS FOR THE CUP - COYS
I'd expect evey young English player to want to play a big game at Wembley at some point in their careers, I doubt JOH will get a better chance than this in his career. (Though he'd have a better chance if he hadn't gone on loan). He's just stating a fact, honestly would you make of him saying "I hope Spurs get through despite the fact it means I won't get to achive my dreams"? You'd know he was lying, so whats the point?
PM he had his chance at Wembley for us and he fcuked it up...for us. He should never be saying this sort of thing even if it is what he's thinking. He should be giving the 'right' answers. You're right PM, he does speak the same way he plays the game. With his heart on his sleeve and with no intelligence or grace.
We pay his wages and he's come out and said he wants us to fail. Despite his claims he's not a Spurs fan and hopefully he wont be a Spurs player for much longer. It always did make me laugh when people said he should get a game cos he loves the club. Loves the club so much we only picked him up when he left Arsenal. Now this little gem from Jamie to hammer home his love for Tottenham.
Point is Mk he shouldn't have said anything.
My memory was that he was dropped from the squad before the game against chavski at wembley. Don't think he was in the United squad either but my memory isn't what it used to be. I would rather hear what players actually think than having them say the right things. At least that way we can make our minds up about them.
Mind you he is inclined to change his mind. A few weeks ago he was talking about getting into the England world cup squad then talking about declaring for Ireland. I agree with you though Craig, he doesn't talk with intelligence or grace and doesn't play with it either. Still, I think he'd be a good player to have around. Let's hope he's at wembley on cup final day in the spurs end.
He missed a penalty against Utd PM.
What has really annoyed me is that Harry said last week, or maybe the week before, that O'Hara was still part of his future plans. Regardless of what Jamie really thinks he should be paying lip service to Harry and saying all the right things to try and carve out a place at Tottenham. All he had to say was that he'd love to play at Wembley with Pompey but that he hopes Spurs win the cup because he'd love to be part of a succesful Spurs team playing in Europe next season. He really just has to say that while he's at Pompey he will give his all for them. That's fair enough, i'd expect noting less. To say you want your employers to get knocked out the cup is disgraceful. He should have kept his mouth shut.
There you go. What do I know. I actually thought he had missed both cup finals which would have explained his desire to play there. But bearing in mind he only played there last season I guess it's a little rich.
Harry is an example of what I mean by someone trying to say the right thing. I don't believe a word that comes out of his mouth and I don't think he does either. I know a lot of fans will be pissed off with O'Hara but at least we know where he stands. An honest player, quite a rarity.
I know this is an ironic statement coming from me but Jamie does not come across as the sharpest tool in the box think before you speak before you drive me mad the boy plays with heart which I like but as in my previous post will only ever be a squad/bench player at Spurs. COYS and all the best for Wigan tonight (I can t stand Liverpool) if we can t get 4th place any other club apart from them!!!!!!!!!
He is being honest, i'll give you that, and we now know exactly where we stand with him. 12 months ago he was given a great reception after missing the first penalty (appalling penalty) in the Cup Final. The fans rallied round him because we felt he was hurting the same as we were. Now he sticks 2 fingers up at us and says 'fcuk you' because he wants to go back to Wembley.
Test , ' , '
So where did half the punctuation go from post 34) push and Run ????????????
Stitch up !!
I was disappointed to read that from O'Hara. Comments like that are hardly going to endear himself to spurs management or fans at a time when we were debating his return.
I just think O'Hara is ambitious and as his game appears to have improved, albeit in a team doomed to relagation, he wants to go to Wembley with the team that gave him first team football.
I like his ambition we could do with more of it at Spurs.
I was disappointed by the comment but it doesn't change my opinion about him as a player. He's a good box to box midfielder with plenty of passion. I am just baffled as to why he signed a 5 year deal before starting his loan spell yet he's unsure of his future at Tottenham? It seems to me he doubts his own ability to play at our level.
Come on you Wigan 1-0 LiverPOO COYS
With games running out that is an awful result for them. Looks like it'll be City or Villa taking that 4th spot. I hope it's City. I can't stand Villa and their boring negative football...and manager.
I would be shocked if Villa do not fall away. They always do and O'Neil seems unable/reluctant to freshen up his side despite having the squad to do it. I hope they don't represent the PL in the champions league either. They may well get better results than us but their style of play is boring. I think it's City's to lose and has been for about a month. There are signs of self destruct so I am keeping my fingers lost. Last time I checked the bookies, we were least favourites and I would agree with that. Mainly because of the injuries and our fixtures. City, UTD away and Chelsea, Arsenal at home. 4 games I can't see getting more than 4 points from.
Crossed not lost! Sorry I am watching the programme lost now :)
Of course he wants Spurs to lose, he wants to play in the Semi final, and the final, who wouldn't. For crying out loud Spurs put him out on loan, coulds you imagine him looking back on his career, thinking, well I never did play in the FA cup final, but so what Spurs got there. My god you lot can be self rightous (however thats spelt) good luck to him. As for us, were not there yet, but we have to keep our focus on all fronts and up our intensity. Lets hope Lennons back soon.
I suppose the menality of a fan is self sacrifice for the good of the club but I guess we're not appreciating that once you become a pro, you start putting yourself first. Fair play, he just didn't need to say it.
Don't give up on fourth spot yet guys. Villa have the easiest run in but I can't see them going all the way. It will all be about who doesn't lose silly games like Pool did tonight. I still think we can do it.
My last point on JOH - some of you lot gave me right good telling off recently because of a badly worded comment I put on here about that red mob down the road (and you were right to tell me off) so if JOH ha said something along the lines of " well its difficult and I am torn on this - but I would be lying if I said that I didn't want to play in the semi and the final if possible" not I want spurs to get beat - I ll be cheering Fulham (you Turdhead Jamie) COYS
Alan if we did get 4 pts from those games (comment 44) it'd be an improvement on the reverse 4 fixtures at the beginning of the season.
Just.
But if we improve/match the results we managed in the 1st half of the season we have to be still in the running come May 9th.
Jamie O'Hara is the gutless fukk who disgraced himself for us with a daisy cutter penalty against UTD. He BADLY let us down.... Now he wants us to lose so he can have another throw of the dice. Fukk him, the WAG-fukkin overpaid, waste-of-space.... He is playing for a team who are bottom of the league...and he is still playing one tier higher than he should be.
Gutless? Well done Simon you picked the one word that applies least!
Simon mmm yes lets talk about gutless penalty takers and its impact on this season. O, Hara is currently a Pompey player what do you expect him to say.. oh nothing seems to me he is the one with something to say something to prove and something to aim for. Penalties hahahhaha
Sorry MK - he bottled a crucial penalty, so all this nonsense about his passion means nothing....it takes guts to stay cool and perform under pressure. He clearly couldnt do that. He now plays for Pompey. Yes he never stops running. Neither does my dog....
Picture this. You are working for a PR firm who ask you to go on secondment to another firm for 6 months. Both firms end up competing for a contract with the Seychelles Tourist Board. If the company you are seconded to wins the contract you will be the one to spend a month in the Seychelles rating their 5 star hotels.
Tell me you'd be rooting for your parent company to win the contract. Particluarly if your parent company is strong financially and doing well while the one you are seconded to is pretty ropey and badly needs the revenue.
Would you tell the world your thoughts though PM?
I certainly wouldn't tell my boss. Maybe not even the wife.
CG As he is currently the inspiration behind Pompeys midfield yes I think O'Hara is expected to say something especially in this media age and the consequences for O'Hara IF we beat Fulham.
Perry, I think i d keep my mouth shut if the last time i was in the seychelles with my parent company I 5hit the bed and let everyone down.
From what i remember there was a threesome in that bed. Quite few spurs players can't seem to tell the difference between a bed and a toilet this season either.
I'd especially keep my mouth shut as the seconded company will probably be out of business this time next year and I could be back at my parent company working in the mail room or canteen!
silly boy to put yourself in a position whereby you burn bridges with your club supporters. what happens if/when he comes back?
he should have said nothing.
Could be back at your parent company? So, irrespective of his comments, how many people expect to see O'Hara playing for Spurs next season if the lad so desperately wants first team football?
If you compare him to Jenas and Thudd then why shouldn't he be playing for us? In terms of a contribution at both ends of the pitch is the more complete, consistent player. He's not a million times better but it's at least debatable. A compliment I can give him is that I am pleased he can't play against us.
I'm fairly sure he will be back with us next season. But you never know who hary has in his sights for a place alongside Wilson.
If someone comes in you can bet someone has to go out.
...lets hope its Jenas first!
It's not debatable Alan, everyone would prefer to see O'Hara in the team rather than JJ. End of.
How would you rate him against Hudd though?
Difficult call, as they are different types of midfielder. Given our current batch of CM's (those that play CM regularly) Palacios and Hudd are the prefered choice but for me O'Hara is next on the list. He'd provide adaquate cover for Wilson, as a pair they'd have plenty about them for those tough away games and O'Hara rather than JJ would be a better choice to bring on to see a game out.
I think you summed it up well Alan. We're all glad he cant play against us if we get to Semi.
On his "outburst" the general feeling seems to be that his sentiments are fine but voicing them is not. Hypocritical.
Haha very true. It's like if you asked all our squad how many of them would move to UTD if wanted, you'd expect them to all say yes but it's disrespectful to say so openly. There's logic in there somewhere...I think.
I think Bale getting into the first team is the best thing that has happened to our club in a while. Not just on the field but off it. He's an example I would use, if I was Harry, to all fringe players that if you bide your time, develop your game, you'll get your chance. If O'Hara had stayed, he'd be playing right now (for a place in the cup semi for a top 4 chasing side whom he supports). There was never 4, 5 players ahead of him. Hudd and maybe Jenas - hardly firm favourites.
Imagine if Jenas said be wanted to finish his career at Spurs, nothing wrong with stating that fact, but would it be in the interest of THFC and its fans or the player for that ghastly hideous gut churning thought to become reality.
First time round O'Hara had no choice. He had to go cos Harry was desperate to sell The Prince. Not sure if Jamie begged to stay for a second stint though.
In my opinion, one of our staff should not be publicly wishing we fail regardless of how he actually feels. Using Berba as an example, a lot of people hate the bloke now. Personally I still like him and have no problem with him wanting to go to Utd. I would hope all of our players want that. That's ambition. Berba, to his credit, never actually came out and said he wanted to leave though, even though it would have been so easy for him to to speed the process up. That showed class. Him not being ready to play at the start of the season was a Ramos decision I believe, not a genuine reason.
O'Hara didn't have to say anything about Spurs. He could have been diplomatic. He doesn't have the intelligence though. He's a footballing moron. Which is probably why I don't rate him and probably why he's happy to get married to, and have kids with, a woman who has seen as many footballing pr1cks as the Arsenal changing room.
What about O'Hara saying how he was treated like a youth/reserve team player? And how hard it is for a young English player in the prem? Clearly O'Hara felt he'd broken in to the first team recently, I sincerley doubt he felt he should start every match but if he's been made to feel like a reserve player he probably felt a loan move would be best for him. This begs the question, while we are so light in the middle why was O'Hara ostracized? If he felt he was part of the first team in the first place I doubt he would have asked for his move and all this would have been irrelevant.
Mk, It's worth noting that prior to leaving on loan he signed up till 2013 and this season alone he has made 6 appearances for spurs (according to the spurs website). He has totalled something like 86 appearances in 3 years with us, so he can't say he has been left out in the cold. What he wanted was to become a first team regular. He didn't feel he could do that at spurs this season so he left. Harry has always had good things to say about him but after Jamie contacted Levy directly to ask to leave what can he do?
I thought O'Hara was diplomatic his situation is a cunundrum and he voiced an opinion which expressed that and suited him as a professional.
I wonder where he will end up next season.Undoubtedly he will be earning more moeny than Craig Grant or myself.Does he need to marry a virgin to be a good footballer, or perhaps he should punch out a barman for no reason, skip a drug test for obvious reasons or drive at 120mph in a 30mph limit because he is a cnt just like some of England finest, but he doesnt, I guess, Craig Grant, he really is a moron.
One theory doing the rounds is that he left spurs because Defoe has been with Lloyd. Possibility, I would find it a little awkard if I was mates with someone who had dated my missus. Footballers are in that fortunate situation that if they are uncomfortable with anything they can just leave.
Are the dates set for the Semi Finals yet? Don't want to jinx it but would like to book flights while they are cheap.
April 10th (according to BBC) has been allocated for the Villa vs Chelsea game so I suspect it'll be Sunday 11th for the team that plays Pompey.
Cheers Alan, I'll give Michael O'Leary a call.
No worries, the games are to be played over the 10,11th April. Although BBC are reporting the Villa game is to be on the saturday that could just be a place filler on their fixture list. ITV will have their say I am sure. Good luck getting a word with Mr O'Leary, my that man can talk!
Lloyd had been with half the team before O'Hara, and he knew it, if he didn't like it he shouldn't have gone there. Though I suppose it's possible Defoe starting taking the pi55 when O'Hara decided to get serious about the relationship....
As for his contract, O'Hara may have signed his contract thinking such a contract obviously means he'll be in the first team. I think a better question would be why did Spurs offer a 5 year contract to a player they don't intend on using? I apprecitate he's made 86 appearances in 3 years, that's probably why he thought he'd made it into the first team. So why no appearances this year? Young lad, new contract, why has he been made to feel like a reserve/youth team player?
If O'Hara and Defoe have had a bust up you can bet your arse Harry has sided with Defoe and this is why O'Hara has been outcasted!
O'Leary can talk alright but he knows how to run an airline. I got flights from Dublin to London for 5 each way, taxes, booking fee everything included. It'll cost more for a coffee at Dublin airport than that. Hope I haven't jinxed the boys now.
I think there's some mileage in this Lloyd story. He probably initially got with her on the recommendation from some teammates that she was a bit of a goer in bed but fell for her and now is rather distancing himself from the others - I would be if I was marrying the club bike. It's easier to have her around the pompey dressing room as they are too skint to interest the money grabbing whore. If that's the case then it's not really up to Harry to make O'hara feel better. There's not much he can do. Make the lads who bedded her apologise?
That last post was like reading an entry in OK magazine. Sorry lads! He could have just gone to pompey to start games, which is the most likely story. It's just boring!
I used to knock around with Tony Parks as a kid, guess what he's a gooner, but who did he want to win the 84 UEFA cup final, who does he want to win on April 10th? and if he said he wanted the goons to win, what would you all say then. O'Hara, who I don't rate, has a chance to play in a cup final, but he mustn't be honest about wanting that, in case it upsets some very childish Spurs fans.
Palacios quoted as saying he wants to go to a big club - Real Madrid... oh Wilson.... please be quiet !
There should just be a blanket ban on quotes to the media from WHL or else get them to actually engage their brains before opening their pieholes!
I'm sure it was an innocuous comment and then sensationalised by the press, but they know how the scum press are so why do they bother?
To be fair to him he did get MOM at Fulham on Saturday. I'm sure the Madrid scouts will have been watching. He has every chance....
And they may provide better protection for family members .......... too much?
Palacious wants to play for Real Madrid. O'Hara wants to play for Portsmouth. I know I stand up for O'Hara and think he can do a job for us but those statements probably best sum up both players' abilities.
We would be left painfully short if Palacios goes anywhere.
Nothing is taboo in comedy YA. I would imagine Wilsons brother would feel pretty cut up if you weren't taking the rise.
There is something as being too honest. It's beyond naive. It's disruptive. You don't need to tell anyone, even Real directors, that if they were interested, you would like to go. Even I as a spurs fan wouldn't pass up that move. Once you deeply analyse why he would actually wish to say it openly to a journalist, you will realise it's just a smack in the face to fans. Rather than let his football do the talking his hoping to move things on a little faster by engineering a move, disrupting his current employers in the process.
Have to agree Craig.
Pity Muslims reading Scandinavian newspapers don't feel the same.
I spotted Jason Roberts going into House of Fraser on Victoria Street today. should I have tripped him up on the stairs? or is he nothing to worry about?
kind of think kicking him would have been fun!
Blackburn have a terrible away record so I am confident well beat them. I think the Croatian striker Klasnic (spl) is the danger.
Well if Klasnic is any good I'm sure we'll buy him next summer along with Pletikosa, as we do seem to be slowly aquiring the Croatian national team.
mdb To be fair and to let you rest more essily the fact is Jason Roberts probably tripped himself up on the stairs in the House of Fraser.
WAAAAYY TO MUCH JAMIE O'HARA TALK ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!
I see the Sandro story back in the papers today. Supposedly learning English ahead of his summer move?
WTF wasn't it pushed thorugh in Jan?
We probably couldn't finalise it until we secured an agreement with Real Madrid over Palacios....
Sandro wanted to play in the Copa Libertores(?) with his club before he left, fair play. Brazil to England is a big move for anyone...I just hope we get the deal done before the WC in case he has a blinder!
Palacios has to improve a hell of alot if he wants a move to Real Madrid. Being able to pass to a team mate would be a good start... then remove the needless free kicks he gives away and the headless chicken running which can leave the defence exposed. If only the guy's ability matched his commitment.
When he played alongside Modric, Palacios was far more discplined and he stuck to what he was good at, which is screening the back four. However, when he plays with Huddlestone, I think he feels he needs to make more forward runs because Big Tom is also rather defensive. If he played with a more forward thinking CM, he may be oliged to sit back more?
With Palicios hard and dedication hopefully he will improve in the other areas of his game.
If anyone gets bored today at any point read this
http://www.tottenhamblog.com/2010/03/10/potential-semi-final-could-make-spurs-v-arsenal-even-more-important/?
So many idiots happy to prove they're idiots.
I wouldn't say Big Toms particularly defensive, running just doesn't come naturally to him, so he doesn't bother.
Haha, I am sure his agent would describe it as positional discipline.
YOUR BANG ON CRAIG GRANT... YIDDO 1882 - HOW CAN PALACIOS IMPROVE - HE'S BEEN OUR PLAYER OF THE SEASON SO FAR WITHOUT DOUBT - WHAT'S HE DOING WRONG...
Big Mart...If you think that then you have not been watching Spurs this season. He has had an ok season but nothing outstanding. I do not think it is too much to expect a player to be able to pass to a team mate. He can leave the defence exposed with his headless chicken running around and gives away unnecessary free kicks, first touch not the greatest. Player of the season, most definately not.
Nice link Craig...I think I saw about one post written by a person with a braincell on that site, and embarrasingly enough he was a Gooner.
Alan...I finally get to agree with something you've said! Palacios did play a much more disciplined game last week alongside Modric. After the game I said that, although Modric had had a quiet game, we ought to give Modric/Palacios a run of games in the centre of midfield. I thought that (aside from the lack of pace on the right flank) our team that day made a lot of sense. Viewing the game for a second time really confirmed to me that the Modric/Palacios combination could be fantastic for Spurs. I don't think it was a coincidence that Palacios played his best game of the year for Spurs. It's true that we had difficulty getting the ball to Modric, but that will improve with time. And once Lennon is back, teams won't be able to focus so much of their effort in preventing Spurs from getting the ball to Modric.
There's compromise I guess. I suppose we'll disagree with who that attacking midfielder would be but common ground is not a bad start!
Just a small request to those going to the match on Saturday, please refrain from cheering on the opposition goalkeeper during play and focus on the one doing a decent job in the spurs shirt.
Alan...How can you make that request? Supporters will show their respect to former players in anyway they want. I am pretty sure that Gomes understands the situation and will not take offence, particularly as the cheers will be equal.
I find that request quite patronising and I am not even one of the supporters who did the cheering last season!!
I would suggest that Robbo will get a certain level of cheering as he'll be more in the action than Gomes!!
I don't think I am alone in thinking last year the support for Robbo and the ironic cheering of Gomes was counter-productive to say the least. My opinion is that it's fine to do it before and after the final whistle but during the game, the general consensus is that you support your own team. It's my opinion and I guess we'll just agree to diagree on that one too.
Alan I think your over cautious about the Robinson thing I went to Blackburn last year Robbo and Gomes were cheered.
I would imagine if Gomes was to move on and return to WHL with another team he too would get a great reception.
It is nice to see goalkeepers get some recognition from somewhere other than Mental Health services.Robbo was great for us and then fell apart. Gomes was an over anxious clown who has got better and better as a keeper. They are all mad all of em they should be celebrated.
Have to agree with Alan on this. Last seasons cheering was an absolute disgrace. It was basically the Park Lane who would have pulled Robbo off that day if he got close enough to them. It was embarrassing to witness. At a time when Gomes was at his lowest too. The Park Lane End were masturbating over a former keeper and mocking the current one.
If I was Gomes last season I wouldn't have understood that reaction from the fans at all.
Nobby/Yiddo1882 nothing wrong with showing respect and appreciation to former players but the Robbo stuff was well over the top.
Nothing particularly wrong with it after the game or when the game was won but it was all the way through. I was there too and it wasn't as bad as reported by some forums and media but as I say, it was at very least counter-productive to our team getting a win. Far be it for me to try and discourage any person for doing what they want but I would ask the same thing of fans booing our players during games. I just view it as unhelpful to our cause. Fulham in two weeks time will bring with five former spurs players. We wouldn't want to be cheering them on now would we? Every time Murphy makes a successful pass let's chant his name and ironically cheer Huddlestone's efforts. It just doesn't make sense to me.
I was there too and I think it was every bit as bad as reported. It also gave Robbo a massive lift and he played a blinder.
I just voted for Gomes to win player of the round for the FA Cup

Couldn't find Robbo on there :)

admirer!!! who will do it for me,he needs a life.
Seems like people have missed the point. It will not affect Gomes as BOTH keepers will be cheered. It is a different situation NOW. Hope this has cleared things up!!
Spurs have had a tradition of cheering respected former players before, during and after the game. When Chris Waddle returned to the Lane his name was sung constantly throughout the match and everytime he went to take a corner that section applauded him.
It was the condescending arrogance of the person who posted a 'request' for supporters not to cheer Robinson. As far as I am aware we are individuals and why this person feels he has an authority to make such a request and a conviction that we should follow it surprises me.
Just because some supporters are so 'Andy Hotspur' that they give up valuable time to read on such matters as groin strains because Lennon has one does not make them more knowlegable or loyal to the club than other supporters who have a balanced life!
I'd say someone who makes a 'request' doesn't believe they have any authotity over anyone. Now, if such a person 'demanded' we didn't sing Robbos name, then they would be having delusions of grandeur. I hardly find it "condescending arrogance" from someone to politely ask for something.
Got to say, the Robbo situation last year was embarassing. There's one thing applauding an ex-player as his name is read out before kickoff... but to cheer and chant his name during the game is just pathetic.... especially as our own GK was having a crisis of confidence at the time.... AND the fact that fatboy Robbo left us as an extremely overweight joke of a player, which makes the adualtion even more confusing.....
The fact that you're arguing for something you didn't even do makes your life so beautifully balanced yiddo1882.
As MK said it was a request, designed to engage debate on a forum designed to allow people to do such a thing. As you were so keen to point out to me last time, lets agree to disagree over whether the merits of fans cheering on former players during games. Personally I feel counter-productive. You obviously disagree. Before we start another day of personal insults, let's just leave it there.
morning all. I would say that we cheer Robbo as a returning player. But not so much as to boost his display
